Are there any other stock replacement filters other than the K&N for the 98 VFR800? Such as Uni-Filters or other foam filters.
I have heard that the K&N allows more dirt through than stock filters. The K&N does flow better than stock.
Are there any mods such as removing the snorkel or CA smog devices that are suggested while keeping the stock exhaust?
The stock air filter has a wire mesh & perforated metal on the air filter. Is this CA only or on all stock filters? Seems that this would be a large restriction. Perhaps they have worked this into air box volume & intake pulses.
    Thanks

I've used K&N filters literally for YEARS on several vehicles and have NEVER EVER had any toubles with excess "dirt" messing up my engine. If you keep them cleaned and oiled up the will do a great job for many years on your bike. I had one on my 87 VFR for 12 years and it NEVER let me down. It still ran as good as the day I brought it home when I sold it. I have one on this bike too and it fit perfectly.
