Assholes in cars

Discussion in 'General VFR Discussions' started by jasonhallman03vfr, Oct 25, 2003.

  1. Is it me or did anyone else notice that when assholes in cars try to drive fast around corners they have a tendency to use the entire road? This only really bothers me when I find them crossing the center into my lane through corners. I can only speculate that these aforementioned assholes must not ride motorcycles on the street because if they did they would not bother trying to make their silly cars go fast through corners.

How many cage drivers do you think ride motorcycles? No, they don't "get it". Ride accordingly and you'll live longer.

Yeah, too bad they can't make car drivers ride a motorcycle for a year before they get their drivers license. I'm sure they'd have an eye opening experience!

Regarding those "wide turns", we went for a ride and had a new rider with us. Before the ride I explained the best places to put yourself in when taking some of these curves, particularly when doing left hand curves. Barely 5 miles into the ride, some bozo comes around the curve, nose sticking well into our lane. Since I was leading by example, he missed me and as I was able to check my mirror to see the new guy following my advice. Had he been close to the center line, it would have been messy.

Had an encounter with an asshole on a bike last week on I-5. I was in my service truck, I can only see out my side mirrors. He was 3 car lengths back on my left and I needed to get over. I signaled, waited a second to see if he'd try to pass... a move common in Seattle. He stayed, I looked up and began to change lanes and at the same time I looked in the mirror again. There he was, in my blind spot, visible only in the spot mirror. I was about 6 inches over the line and just held it there as he went past.

He's not injured because I ride. I always check the spot mirror and make slow lane changes specifically in case there's a bike I didn't see. It paid off this time- for both of us.

They don't see fire trucks with lights and sirens going. You can't expect them to see you and your little motorcycle.
    Assholes and idiots.

I have never seen a ride of a bike cross that center line! Have any of you seen this? That trend is every bit as common place with bikes as cages considering the numbers of vehicles on the road in my humble opinion. It is just that we tend to hurt more when we meet up with the other.

Funny you mention that; having recently returned to motorcycles after being away since 2003, I'm shocked that I am as ticked at assholes on bikes as I am the same in cars. Knobs wearing terrible clothing, racing in and out of traffic on R6's or GSXRs, practicing ridiculous riding stunts, and intimidating cars with pack-riding. Add to the list.

I don't care if they kill themselves doing it; I only care because they cause crashes that injure/kill others, including their girlfriends on back, and because they hit the ERs severely injured without insurance, jacking the cost of care and insurance up for all of us.

But, the worst is that they have worsened motorcyclists' reputation over the last 10 years.

Two of these fools were killed on I-5 just south of Seattle this week within 24 hours, causing all sorts of grief to the drivers/passengers of the cars involved. Idiot 1 raced across the southbound I-5 - I-90 eastbound interchange on a Harley 883 way too fast, lost control, fell onto to northbound I-5 below, and was hit by two cars. I feel sorry for the folks who hit him; terribly traumatizing.

Idiot 2 - a 45-year old guy - was weaving in and out of stop'n'go traffic on southbound I-5 south of downtown and rearended a nearly stopped car at warp speed, instant death, again causing trauma to the driver of that car. And, wow, did he hit that car fast; the back of it was destroyed.

And people did some stupid stuff in the '80s and '90s, but, nothing like this; people are watching Fast and Furious and importing that onto the streets.

At some point someone in Congress is going to take up old Senator Danforth's 1980s crusade against superbikes, which could spell all sorts of trouble.

Want to stop a lot of stupid bike "stunting"? Figure out a way to stop their buddies videoing it for YouTube, that will stop a lot of the asshats. They just do it for their 15 minutes, only now it's just 15 seconds, of fame.

Not trying to derail the thread, but since we're talking about Seattle-area motorcyclists...

I'd be happy if fellow motorcyclists didn't see the need to use their high beam ALL THE TIME. I was in my Q60RS cage with the wife doing a grocery run in Mill Creek this evening, and a ST1100 rider decided he needed more light to see at 6:30 pm on a partly sunny day, using his high beam as he followed me through traffic on Bothell-Everett Highway.

Thanks bud, but not allowing me to use any of my mirrors doesn't endear me to your supposed visibility issues. And for the record, it was a black ST1100, and no, he wasn't wearing any his-vis clothing or helmet, so...
