Thanks for the add! Picked up a 99 with 17K miles for $400 needing lots of work and have been using the forum as guest to get lots of great info (thanks for that). Just got it all back together last night and having a brake issue with the rear brake dragging :( I followed the bleeding instructions in the Honda manual but obviously missed something. I'll get it sorted out but can't wait to take it out when resolved.

It may be blue but it definitely doesn't look like a blue light special! :D Welcome!

    quick cliff notes:
Bought it from neighbor for $400, been sitting since 09. No clutch/brakes, bad tires and still had gas in it (at least what used to be gas). Got it home and found that squirrels had made a home in the air box. Pulled it apart and overhauled fuel injection system, got another tank and fuel pump/sending unit and hooked it up to jumper cables and it fired right up and ran perfectly!! Then pulled it all apart, checked brakes and electrical Flushed all the fluids (brakes/clutch/coolant/oil) replaced the tires and had a buddy paint it all. Took a couple months to gather parts and ot t it back together this week and found the rear brake issue but I think I know where the gremlin is (screen in SMC hopefully). I'm in it about $1700 with everything inc title transfer. Got some great info on the brakes/switches etc and without this site I'd probably still be looking at it in the garage. Yes i'm aware how messy my garage is :)

    Hi Jeff

    Welcome to the MadHouse.

That VFR airbox seems to have been visited by a few very busy critters. You won't be the first! Just make sure they don't come back once you get the bike running again. They somehow know when a bike is stored for long periods and can really make a mess.

    Good luck with the project

$400! That's fantastic. Was the tank bad, rusted out of just a nasty mess?

That explains a lot. I think you had the "back woods" version of an air filter!
