    Hello,
Recently I've been looking for a used CBR1100XX but noticed a 2010 VFR1200F for sale. It's twice the money I was hoping spend on a Blackbird but then again it's quite a bit newer. I remember seeing the VFR when they first came out and thought they were nice looking. I've had other bikes in the past that were 750cc V4s and liked them but the inline 4 has been my favorite. I haven't had the experience of riding a 1200cc V4 so I don't know if I'd be disappointed or not. This 2010 VFR1200F has my attention and I could be swayed into spending the extra cash if it was a step up from the Blackbird. So, I'm curious if anyone has ridden or owned a Blackbird and their thoughts between the two bikes.

I have never owned a blackbird but I just bought a used 2010 VFR1200FA a couple of months ago with only 600 or so miles on it. Runs strong lots of power and can take trips on it. I have owned several interceptors over the years I love the V4. How many miles on the bike and price?

The 1100xx Blackbird was designed in the 1990's. Came out first in 1997 and was carbureted back then. It got fuel injection in 2001 I believe. The 2010 VFR1200 was designed in the late 2000's and first came out in 2010. The VFR1200 is way more powerful. Suspension on it will probably be more fresh due to time. Stock bike versus stock bike, the VFR1200 is better. Having said that, if you were to modify the XX's suspension with modern, higher quality parts, replace all wear items, it will run just as well as many modern bikes. The XX was a very good bike and still is good. But you can say the same thing for the VFR1200 plus it has shaft drive and it looks futuristic as hell. The one thing the XX has is a reputation for reliability. It was in production for a long time and all and every known issue it has is well documented and fixed. It was Honda's flagship bike so the quality of these bikes are topnotch.

If it's not too personal, what did you pay for your 2010 with 600 miles?

WOW! Thanks for this listing. Even less miles than the one I saw near me and $1,500 cheaper. I see they are closed on Mondays so I'll contact them on Tuesday to get more info. I'm curious if they offer some kind of a special shipping fee. It's possible if they do a lot of shipping they may get a better rate than the average guy would get.

I’m sure they would split the shipping cost with ya. Shipping would be $600 to $800 depending on how far you are from them.

Both nice bikes. But for similar money the newer VFR would be my choice.

I tend to be wary of the 2010 models as at least in Europe we had some of the batch with engine swarf issues which has resulted in a few very sad failures. Obviously by 2012 production models the quality control on engines had been sorted out and modern engines are now so smooth it is way too easy to collect speeding tickets!

I think somewhere around 2012 Honda also fitted a bigger petrol tank to address complaints about the range of the original 1200s.

USA models did not have motor issues. Just the driveshaft recall which they still honor.

I know first hand about having early production problems. Years ago I bought a used 2002 Kawasaki ZZR1200 with 1,500 miles on it. About a week after owning it I started having issues with the motor sputtering. I decided to pull the plugs to have a look and I found antifreeze in one of the plug wells. I cleaned it up and installed a new plug, put it all together and went riding again. After about 50 miles the sputtering started again. That's when I discovered the ZZRBIKES.COM site and found there was a run of porous heads within a certain serial number range. Well, mine was in that range. I thought I was screwed because there was no recall and this was a used bike. I called Kawasaki Corporation and in my nicest, pleading voice I was able to get them to replace the head at no cost to me. I had that bike for about 10 years and never had another issue with it. I would also consider purchasing another ZZR1200. That was a wonderful motorcycle for my needs. Very smooth and strong. Very planted going down the road.

After reading your concerns about the 2010 model I went back to some older posts about the problem. Pretty disheartening really. Even though it seems to be related to a select group in the UK, it does leave me with concern about buying a 2010 here in the US. Even with very low mileage, it's still an eight year old motorcycle that probably wouldn't have any backing from Honda. Have there been ANY reports of this type of failure in the US? I feel like my excitement bubble has been bursted!

I checked with Honda. It showed all the VIN #,s with the early motor trouble none was USA models all bad motors was in Europe. One guy on this forum in the UK just got a new motor from Honda (warranty) after all these years. Don’t be scared to buy a 2010 in the USA. Check to see if the driveshaft has been replaced. Mine had not been replaced and my Honda dealership order me a new driveshaft and when the part came in I rode my bike to the dealership and got it installed in about a hour and rode it back home.

Thanks for that info on the US 2010 models. I feel relieved. I remember when Honda first unveiled the VFR1200F. At that time I felt the look was futuristic and I wasn't totally sure how I felt about it. Lately I've been revisiting the bike since I'm looking to get another sport tourer. I've probably seen every video I could find on Youtube. The more I see it the more I want one. Even though the prices have dropped considerably from when they were new they still are a little more than I'm used to spending on a used motorcycle. I don't ride a whole lot (not an everyday rider). Probably around 2,500 miles/year. But I was getting used to possibly spending $7,500 for that bike that's for sale near me but now I'm even more excited since I saw the one in Michigan with less miles and $6,000!

Got my saddle bags and One had a broken tab where it mounts. Sending them back and getting another set. Did you get a VFR1200FA yet?

I didn't get a VFR yet. I did talk to the guy at Harbor Cycle though and he sent me a few pics of some scrapes on the right side fairing and the mirror on the right side. Not too bad but right in the middle for all to see. Good place for a favorite sticker to live. I'd probably have around $600.00 in shipping to add to the cost. There is another one I found in Tarentum Pennsylvania which is about 1 1/2 hours from me. I also talked to a salesman there about the bike. I'm thinking about making the drive to see it on Saturday. I've only seen the VFR1200F in pics and Youtube. I feel like I need to see it in person, sit on it and get a feel before making a purchase. Getting to ride the bike would be a huge deciding factor but the weather around here is not ideal for sure. It's around freezing and it looks like there's an 80% chance of rain on Saturday so a ride is not likely. That bike has some kind of aftermarket exhaust on it. They're asking $7,000 for that one.
It's too bad you had a problem with one of the bags you received. Were those new?
