    Hello

I need to replace my exhaust chamber/ collector on my 84 VF750F. As i search the internet i am not finding a lot of options.

Has anyone had any luck with any different options than the original part?

I can find lots of 4 to 1 aftermarket chambers/collector online and will go that route if necessary. Just looking for some advice on the best course of action here.

Guy i work with suggested buying the 4 to 1 chamber and new slip on muffler. Any thing i should be aware of if switching from the current 4 to 2 with 2 mufflers to 4 to 1 with 1?

    Thanks

I bought the Vance & Hines 2 into 1 for front and back and now have Kerker slipons, sold the stock collector couple of years ago. Rust has not been out friend on the stock systems. If your stock mufflers are still usable I would try and find a stock collector. The firing order does not make these engines sound ‘hot’ with loud pipes.

I am pretty sure a VF1000F collector will work. I currently have VF1000F stock mufflers on a stock VF750F. Probably doesn't open up more options as the 84 1000 is fairly rare. The basic configuration of the engine blocks is the same.

You would need 1000R mufflers to use a 1000R collector. The angles of the outlets is WAY different.

Those are the only stock options that will remotely work. There is no 4-1 collector (stock style) that is a bolt on.

Please post the 4-1 option you are talking about.

    Thanks for the info.
The 1000 option is interesting as i have found 2 chambers locally off of a 1000.

The idea of a 4 to 1 was more of a guess i would say as i have yet to find a suitable replacement.

I removed my chamber today and as i suspected it was in bad shape. Easy enough to remove as it wasn't bolted on in the first place.

I have come accross a few chambers off of a 500. Would it work with some effort?

More effort than what it's worth. By a long shot. Might as well build something from scratch, totally different spacing.

The attached pic is an option for a 1000
Sounds like it would work as long as i switch the mufflers than?

Far out. The configuration should also fit the 83-85 VF750/700F, but I can't remember if the stock "header" pipes are a slightly smaller diameter on the 750 not allowing the proper slip fit into this unit, as you need to cut the stock front sections from the collector. And utilize the existing down tubes in the rear. I can do some measuring later if you want.

Any differences could be made up with a product called "Chamber Seal". It is a exhaust gasket material that comes in a roll you can stretch to whatever thickness you need before applying.

And stock VF750F mufflers should work with that.

    Front exhaust pipes:
    VF1000: 35mm
    VF750: 32mm

But after a little research (cross referencing exhaust gaskets), I don't think the stock 1000 pipes will fit into the head recesses without modification. The 1000 flanges are 43mm. I don't have a VF750 collector off of a bike at the moment to compare. But if it's just a couple mm, they could be ground down to fit into the head and mate to the gasket.

Edit... just measured the exhaust opening on a VF750F engine. ~43mm. So a little grinding (maybe none) and the 1000 flanges should suck into the head and crush a new gasket no prob.

Edit... And I always forget that the front header pipes on the VF750 have to go around the lower radiator. It looks like the 1000 pipes might still clear the radiator comparing the two, but it would be pretty tight. The pipes might be able to be rotated a bit since they are not connected to the stock collector and made to clear and still come to meet the aftermarket collector with some tweaking here and there.

I am going to be installing a Sudco 4-1 on my VF750F pretty soon. I have a VF1000F collector that I can try and see if it clears, but I don't know how soon I will be doing the swap.

I love this kind of shit.
