my bike was tipped over by 90km/h wind on Wednesday. it fell on the right side. now it won't work and there is not even power going through when I put the key in, the dashboard won't light up. I'm not sure what I need to look for. any suggestions?

Ouch, that stinks! Sorry for the bad luck.

There is a bank angle sensor buried somewhere under the gauges that might do it, but I’ve also seen reports to double check the kickstand switch and kill switch after a tip over.

However, I don’t think any of those would cause a complete lack of power, they’d just cut power to the fuel pump or starter. So you might need to take the seat off and check the fuses and battery terminal connections.

    I'm sorry that happened...
    So sucks.

What Stubbs said. I'd check easier things first. Sounds easy enough, but kill switch, check battery terminals, fuses, then go on to look at sensors.

My terminals were so loose that my moto was shutting down while operating it on the road. Did it heading out of Simi Valley in CA last Christmas.

Hope it's an easy fix and there wasn't too much other damage.

Not long after i got my 5th gen i dropped it getting it of the centre stand onto the right side with the engine running. The engine stopped and wouldnt start till i switched it off then back on . Bank angle sensor .
Total lack of power would suggest battery or fuses. Get the seat off and check these first then get back to us . Does the fuel pump prime when ignition is turned on ?

Hi Kim - welcome to the forum.

I hope the some of the above suggestions will allow you to get the bike running again. Sadly these things happen and whilst a simple tip over can damage fairing panels they rarely cause permanent mechanical damage. So pick the bike up and after you have put it securely on its side stand, stop and evaluate what is and is not happening.

It is difficult to offer sensible advice without a bit more input from you. Chances are the tip over sensor (bank angle) has been triggered and may take a short while to reset once the back is once again upright. Don't forget the usual start up basics - sufficient fuel in the tank, healthy charged battery, bike in neutral, kill switch to run, pull the clutch and try to start the bike.

    What happens?

You say there is no sign of power when you turn the key to the ignition on position - so do you mean that absolutely nothing is showing on the dash - so none of the dials register things like fuel level or water temperature and the dash is not going through its normal wake up routine?

Can you hear the fuel pump prime?

When you press the start button is there any sound - click? or nothing?

If there are no dash lights and no sound of the fuel pump, then it is almost certainly an electrical issue - so remove the seat and check both battery terminals are secure and ensure the main fuse (right beside the battery) has not blown.

If the main fuse is OK check to see if horn, lights or indicators work with the key removed or in the ignition on position. If some things work, but others don't, then it confirms there is some power from the battery and suggests that one or more secondary fuses have blown. So check them all.

If none of those checks resolves the problem perhaps the next step is to take a quick video so we can see the dash and also hear what is happening when you try to start the bike. then just post up a youtube link to the video.

Good luck - Let us know how you get on.

Wow! Tough first post. First of all welcome to the best and most helpful place on the web in regard to our favorite toys. Secondly, as has been mentioned above, start with the basics like the kill switch, and check one thing at a time.

Let us know what you find.

I think the tip-over sensor cut-out would only work if the ignition was on when it tipped over. This is designed to latch out, until the ignition is cycled off then back on.

A total lack of power does suggest the major 30A fuse at the starter solenoid may have popped. You need to pull the tail cowl off for access, the fuse is located on the left side of the bike near the front of the subframe.

Maybe also the battery shifted and you have a bad connection of one of the terminals.

    Welcome aboard Kim.
