Well, the time has come. I'm having short dizzy spells which the docs say won't go away. I'm afraid I'll drop my favorite toy, a 2001 5th gen., red of course, with Wolf Racing dual carbon under-tail cans. She's almost broken in at 8000 miles, has had the charging system rewired and heavy duty MOSFET reg. fitted. Lots of maintenance / upgrades done to while away rainy weekends. It'd be nice to have her in the garage to contemplate her lines, but she really oughta be singing down the road taking her owner someplace interesting. You can find more about her by searching my posts here. I'm gonna miss riding after 55 years on two wheels.

Sorry to hear H3nry. Every now and then I’ll get vertigo and not much I can do but try and not fall down or get too nauseous! One time it lasted for a few months, had to stop riding while I was having the dizzy spells. Mine comes from plugged eustachian tubes and if I’m lucky doesn’t last that long. Sometimes I can take medication to make it go away faster but not always. Wishing you luck, hope it doesn’t get too worse, or better yet, you can find a solution to your problem.Good Luck!

    Wow.
I suspect that may happen to me some day, hope it is a while down the road.
I worry mostly for a great friend, who is die-hard and lifelong on 2 wheels. He got me back into being in the wind after an extended dry spell. In the last couple of years he has had some real issues which have limited his riding. For a while it looked as though it could put on the stoppers, but that has fortunately abated.

I'm realizing that I recently sort of squashed an idea he had about riding in NZ. Hmmm, maybe I should reconsider that.

Hope that you find a very good and appreciative home for your VFR.

Wow. Tough decision but smart. I don't know I'd sell the bike very soon.....in case it does go away.
I got up one night about a year ago and things swirled......it persisted for a week or so....no idea why it happened, and it hasn't since.
    Old age sucks.

Very sorry to hear this H3nry - good luck to you.

All this talk of vertigo reminds me of one of my favorite movies:

Sorry to hear this. I understand how you may feel. I am to receive and new hip in the next few months. I will be off the ride for a few months at least. Likely longer. The surgeon suggests I may not be able to keep riding this type of bike. The standard touring bike is not a likely choice for me. So. I suggested to the surgeon that he is probably wrong. This suggestion was made with heart and intense animation.

Wait n see what your doc says before you make that decision that you will regret. Are you selling the 4 wheel stuff as well?

    It may just be temporary.

It’s never good when things start going pear shape with old age.
Don’t panic, sometimes things come good.
Randy, my mate had his hip replaced last year.
He used to ride a Tuono V4 but then bought a BMW S1000XR when it got too painful, he was only out of action for three months and his first ride back was on our yearly 2600km round trip to Phillip Island for WSBK.
He’s fully recovered and has a new lease on life.

A couple of years ago at a local bike meet I saw a guy pull up on a Can-Am Spyder. He got off and staggered away.. seemed pretty intoxicated. I went over to him to see what was going on, he was completely sober and told me his story. About 25 years ago when he was 19, he had a bad bike accident that resulted in having very bad balance and vertigo. Couldn't ride any more because of it. 20 years later he sees a spyder and was offered a test ride. It changed his life as he was able to ride again. He is fine riding it as balancing isn't an issue like on a 2 wheel bike.
There are other possibilities if things don't improve.

    Sorry to hear your dilemma.
Beginning of last year getting ready for work, blew my nose and went spinning out of control for a good 10 minuets.
Some scary shit fer sure, it left as fast as it showed up thank God.
No one could give me an answer what was going on.
    Your bike sounds amazing
    Good luck

Unfortunately, it's been a year or so and the spells are getting worse. Good luck with the hip surgery, guys. Did that a few years back and it grounded me for a couple of months. I couldn't get my right foot down at a stop for another month. Takes the fun out of traffic.

Anybody interested in a 5th gen which looks new and has had the requisite mods done, contact me off list. I haven't posted it to Craigslist or eBay yet. $3000 to a member. Austin, Tx area.

That's a little less than I'll have invested in a 4th gen by the time it's on the road and all one color scheme 8>).
If life had taken a different turn, I would LOVE to fly to Texas and make a 3 week trek home......

Sympathies Henry! :( Hope you are able to find something else to replace the bike! I'm surprised someone hasn't swooped on it yet!

Bummer. Maybe find a friend with a sidecar. Gotta be in the wind.

    A ragtop at least.

You're making the right move. Safer for you, those you love, and the others on the road. I admire a person who is able to assess when it is time to call it quits. I love to ride, but there are many more things to life than just riding a motorcycle.

Sad to hear, I'm sure it sucks.
But better to quit now on your own voluntarily.
Rather than to crash and have to go through the pain and quit that way.
I don't even want to think about having to make that decision.
    Good luck H3nry.
