    Hi All,

I’m planning on adding switched on USB power to the front of the bike. Bought some 4 pin connectors that match OEM from Aliexpress (and have some wiring and a double USB socket also standing by).

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/5-S...32734584619.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.zHvjsU

Have a few questions on the Honda OEM 12v accessory socket kit:
    http://powersports.honda.com/documentum/MW01/08U70-MJM-D00.pdf

    Specifically the (4) Sub harness.

On the wiring diagram linked below, it shows the 4 pin socket connector (green arrow) but it only shows 2 wires going in – (I’m assuming that’s just a pos and neg?) – and nothing on the other side of the connector.

On the Honda socket kit instructions, steps 10-13 show the wiring on the bike and the sub harness. The male “bike socket” shows what appears to be two wires (step 10) but the sub harness looks like it has 4 wires on both the male and female sockets that connect to their respective bike sockets (steps 11-13) – (and two for the 12v power socket).

Is the female “bike socket” attached to anything? If so, what - and are 4 wires needed (and what are all 4 for)?

I’m planning on tapping into that accessory socket to provide power for my double USB socket up front but am not sure why a “Y” design is needed. I’m thinking that splitting off (or tapping into) makes sense if you need to keep something else attached or the circuit needs to continue further… ?

Does anyone have more info on this? For those of you who have installed the Honda accessory socket kit on the 8th gen, at your convenience, could one of you please take a few pictures of the sub harness or provide wire colors matched up with placement in the male/female/12v sockets?

    Thanks in advance!

Thanks Fink and Grum (and Bubba too lol)!

Hey Guys, thanks so much for your responses!

From your info, RTFM (but this time the correct page! I'm a dumbass... see correct page below)

a little more research on the pink wire which goes to "ANS BACK" that led me to this thread (thanks to those in that thread too!),

    http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/index.php?/forums/topic/83315-wiring-up-a-power-socket/&page=2

and finally getting under my seat and looking at my specific layout, I believe I've finally got it sorted... Thanks again!

Timm's post is correct over there. I have done the same for an accessory USB charger. I believe the pink is used by the dealer for ecu communication.

I have learned over the many years I have been doing wiring on cars, motorcycles and assorted vehicles that you shouldn't trust the factory harnesses for powering "stuff". I will often use the factory leads to trigger solenoids, but I didn't on my VFR. I wired directly to the battery using a ring ended adapter that has a 5 amp fuse at the head end and a cigarette lighter end at the other. That let me just use one of many micro-usb adapters I have laying around. Hide it all under the fairing where it won't get wet, and leave a drip loop in the wires. It's worked great for years. If the lead off the OEM molded connector is controlled by the ignition, the you could use a solenoid for the ground, and to trigger it off the oem lead. That makes it all a bolt on/off process and you can undo, or expand with anything you have added very quickly. Most importantly, you don't ever risk putting excessive load on factory wiring. It is nasty when factory harness leads melt, so I just avoid it altogether.

I just ordered a connector from amazon for my stock accessory plug. I get more parts than I need, but it was cheap and I have extras if I mess something up. The only down side is I have to wait for it to ship from China.

I'm only going to use the black/yellow wire as the switched power trigger for my PDM60, which is what I power all my accessories with.

The only thing I need to figure out now is the high-beam trigger (to modulate controller for aux lights). Does anyone have any ideas for this (I'll start a new thread if necessary)?
