Just wondering if anyone has modified their windscreen to be shorter.

I'm about 5'7" and I find that I get a lot of wind noise in a normal riding position. If I raise up enough to get my head into clean air, the noise all but goes away. I just ordered a cheap-o windscreen to cut down, so the wind hits my chest rather than my head. That would help in two ways: it would put my helmet in cleaner air, and the wind on my chest would help support my weight too. Seems like a win-win. I know most people replace their windscreen with a taller one if they do anything, but I don't really want to go that route. I like the wind pressure on me, and I don't particularly care for the looks of the taller screens anyway. I do have a set of helibars installed so that puts my head a bit higher than OEM screen dictates too.

Anyway, just curious for any input.

    TIA

I did just that on my ST1100 (got a short screen from a UK company called "Slipscreens on eBay) but for a slightly different reason, the ST barn-door fairing cuts so much wind that the venting on my textile suit (which works great when riding my VFR or VTR) didn't work and I was cooking on >25C riding days. As a by-product, the shorter screen reduces helmet turbulence and makes the ST feel a touch more "sporty". I do look at the electric screen on the ST1300 with some envy as a way of having one's cake and eating it too.

I switched from a tall touring screen on my 99 to a Chinese "double bubble". Sooooooo much better!!! Very thick plastic, and no turbulence, much less noise. But the best part is I actually am getting air on my body again. Went for a ride yesterday in 93°-95° weather with humidity and I was comfortable. With the other screen I would have been a raisin!

I listen to music thru earphones and found the stock, then taller didn’t help the buffeting sound, added Givi 6” extension and if it was 3-4” taller I would be in that quite zone like ducking down, but still drowns out music above 60. Just did some work on bike and test drove without any windscreen And was actually like you say, smoother but hadn’t tried with music yet. May try the shorter windscreen myself.
