    I've been where you've been!

You will probably love.... then hate.... then love.... then hate.... then love what you're getting yourself into.

Very similar story from me, I'm a long time 80's Honda Pig fan ('85 XR600) and this spring rescued an '85 VF500 from some guys wood pile (no kidding), for $200 not running, front break was frozen, but was allegedly running the previous year.

Everything you need to know to get your old girl running is on this forum. Read.

I had to replace usual culprits; tires, battery, fluids, chain, filters etc. I got lucky with a tank that only had some dents (most I was able to pop out), I've been slowly chasing down some electrical issues but that has not stopped me, for the most part, from riding.

If you have not pulled the carbs, read all the excellent posts on this site, take a deep breath and plan on spending about half a day as a noob to these bikes and take your time an be thorough cleaning the carbs one at a time. That's what I did. You will be so amazed at the difference this will make! My VF500 is stupid fast, and surprisingly comfortable.

To give you some hope, and potential cost estimate, I've got about $550 into the bike inclusive of the $200 I paid for it. In my book a bike that rides like the VF for 5 bones, is wicked cheap.

Good luck and keep posting, you can do it.
