Rode two hours with no problems.

ABS light started flashing then dimmed till where I could barely see it. Ten minutes later lost lights and dash. Clock still worked. Road 15 miles with no issues then started losing power. Barely made it home. Reved up fine but let the clutch out and it bogged down under light load. Barely made it up my driveway. It popped a few times going up, not loud back fires.

Let sit for a while. Now the dash works but won't start. Starter just clicks rapidly.

Don't have a voltmeter or tools at home. Just wondering what I might be in for....

I think it is your stator Rob. Sound a lot like how mine reacted when it went for shit in Vegas on 2012. You started loosing power and were able to overcome it to some degree y revving up the engine it eventually it succumbed due to lack of juice.

Would you be able to handle the costs you will incur using me as a helper?

But if you really want my help, I could bring a crescent wrench and pliers along with a roll of duck tape. I am sure you have dinner knives I can use to remove and tighten up screws.

I could cover gas food and beer and a small stipend. Wouldn't expect you to work for free. I need to check the manual to see what's involved. But an experienced hand would be appreciated. I'd ride back with you to Canukastan. Hiway 9 is closed due to slides. May not be open for a few months.
I guess now I need to do the drill and look around for a stater

I would love to come help but I am not even adequate when it comes to mechanics. I just got over needing to use the manual when doing and oil change. Basically, any time I do anything on this bike, the manual is open next to me. If the task is complicated at all, it goes into the shop and I pay someone who knows what they are doing, fix the problem.

Do you have the full Service manual for the 6th Gen? If not, I can get a copy for you...free. Soon as I get my computer back from the computer shop. Seems it is infected. Wait a moment. I think I have it also stored on my old computer which I still have. Let me know if you need it.

Before you get a new stator, do the drill to make sure it is the stator you need. If you need a new one, be careful on after market. When mine was replaced in Vegas, they used and after market as OEM were on back order. That one lasted just two years and burned up on my way home from California again. This time on Refukengina Saskatchefukenwan. This time I had an OEM sent in from Calgary. But scrap the plug and solder the wires. The connector on the stators seem to be quite the weak link according to many here.

I want it understood. I am a serious person. I do not have time for fun things.

I have a couple things on my plate right now. Will be in touch. I should be able to get away for a day or two later. If I am down there for 48 hours or more, I can bring back $800.00 duty free. I see my Dianese coming my way soon.

There's plenty of shops that sell gear around here.

It could just be your regulator. That basically what happened when my reg went out on my 99. They're are some easy tests to find out if it's your stator.

I think if he does "the drill" he should be able to determine if it is stator or regulator. Maybe I am misinformed. Or kinda thick mechanically.

Before you jump straight to the stator check the charging. It’s usually the reg/ rec that fails first. Classics signs as you described.

Should read around 14.5 v @5k revs with headlight on main beam.

While I agree that the R/R is usually the first to go, the stator quickly follows suit. Do it once and do it right so you don't have to worry about it. Get a new stator and MOSFET R/R and add a volt meter. The peace of mind is totally worth it.

Finally got around to charging the battery and putting it back in. Fired right up and........ it's charging - 14.6 volts.

Tested the stator to have the experience and it was at 19v at idle and 70v around 6k rpm. Checked all 3 wires in pairs, all the same.

Hard for me to imagine it's the battery. Its a Yuasa and only two years old. Guess I'll take it back to the place I bought it and have them test it.

That was the AC output of the stator before going through the rectifier.

If the stator and regulator are healthy, maybe you just have some bad earths? Maybe check the earth strap on the battery first, after that the 6G has a common earth block up under the top cowl.

But a good idea to check the battery first. In my experience, they are more likely to fail when hot, but behave OK when cold.
