    Hey VFR Owners,

I looked at a 2012 VFR1200F today and am considering purchasing tomorrow. Wondering if I could get some advise.

It has a lot of mods... Yoshi exhaust, power commander, sargeant seat, raised bars, heated grips, lowered pegs. Well, here's the craigslist post:
    https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/mcy/d/2012-honda-vfr-1200-one-owner/6655420030.html

The guy selling it is the owners brother in law so he didn't have a whole lot of detailed information. Cool thing is he said his brother in law is about same size as me (6'1", 230 lbs) and he setup the bike for a bigger dude. Sitting on it was noticeably more comfortable than my current bike (Katana 750 with a Sargeant seat).

Had a couple questions for y'all that would be really helpful for me:
    • Any general tips for buying a 2012 vfr? Things to look out for? I'm going to test ride it tomorrow when I bring cash...
    • Do you think $6900 is a good price for the bike? It has a pretty bad scratch on one side case and scratch on one mirror.
    • Is there anything I can check to ensure this is really a 2012 (mostly cause I want to make sure I get the bigger gas tank)?
    • The bike has an attachment for a "BMW top case" that the guy doesn't have. A top case is a must have for me, so I'm wondering how much $ it will be to either replace the BMW one (he didn't know the make/model), or buy a new rig. If it is pricey for a top case with back support, I may have to offer less for this bike.
Appreciate any info you guys can give. Hopefully I will be a proud VFR1200 owner tomorrow and will be able to give back to the forum for years to come! :)

Hi and Welcome to the MadHouse

I see others have already responded to your post over on the 7th Gen forum.

    So did you buy it?

I am always a bit wary if an advert says something which obviously does not tie up.

If its red then perhaps its a VERY late registered 2010 model. There were after all a lot festering in warehouses around the States for years until dealers starting slashing the asking price to more sensible numbers. To be honest the tank capacity/range improvement from 2012 was not immense so it may not be too much of an issue if its mostly going to be used for short trips in urban areas with loads of 24hr filling stations.

The big test is does it have Traction Control - if yes its a 2012 onwards model which has somehow appeared with red paint, if no its probably a 2010.

Even a 2010 bike is a quality bike which will be more than enough for most riders. If range is a big issue just fit a top box and carry an emergency fuel bottle (which after all seems almost mandatory equipment for people with BMWs :)

If you gave it a miss - don't despair - keep looking as deals on used bikes tend to increase in the autumn especially in those parts of the States which encounter real winters. Almost inevitably every year there will be some riders who decide that handling a large bike like a 1200 is finally getting too much and conclude it is time to either downsize or even hang up their boots and sell bike and all their gear. So over the next few months you may well find something every bit as good.

    Take Care

Seller text me this morning saying he found the title and news to him that it's really a 2010. He was apologetic and said he was going to update the ad didn't want me to waste my time. I'm still interested for right price... Trying to decide what to offer him...
