keep the oil topped up. How much is it using? 1quart per how many miles? If not using major amounts, it will be ok as long as you don't run it out.

reverse is definitely missing. As for the issue, how many miles? End play might be exccesive enough to pop it back to neutral under hard...

imo if your brakes were dragging "to much" you would get brake fade after awhile of riding from the fluid overheating in the calipers and lines....
I'm no expert but you would game some hp/torque on the high end rpms and lose on the bottom end. Hard to imagine less on the bottom though.
