5th gen. vs 6Th gen mirrors

Hi, forum members. Are 5th gen & 6th gen. rear view mirrors interchangeable?

 

I don't know the specific answer to that, but I do know that the two types of 5G mirrors are interchangeable. so if you don't like the condom covers on the 98-99, get the thin stem 00-01 mirrors. IIRC I bought some EMGO brand mirrors for mine and they're fine, I've also used some Kiwav brand on my VTR.

I was going to start a thread on the 6th gen mirrors as IDK if mine are stock, but they seriously suck. Can the mirror end itself be tightened? And once I fold back the stem, it loosens the bolt and just flops around. Maybe 5th gen ones are better.

 

5th Gs still flop around if bolts are loosened...Someone dropped my VFR & broke BOTH mirrors while she was parked and left me a note. If both were broken it meant the bike got dropped on each side! I just can't believe my luck. I got my foot peg broken from a drop & mirrors all about within a month!
I thought I can use 6Gs mirrors on my 5G.

 

The mounts are different but the stalks are interchangeable. The bolt holes of the mounts on the 6 Gen are 40mm center to center, where the 5 Gen it is 50mm. When someone knocked my 6 Gen over, my right hand mirror broke at the pivot point so I took a 5 Gen mirror I had and removed it from the mount and used it with the 6 Gen mount. The angle will be different but ultimately it will work.
