I'm not saying not to make yourself more conspicuous, hell I ride with a hi-viz helmet and jacket, what I'm saying is that regardless of how noticeable you are, it is you who is responsible for your safety, not your clothing or your bike. Always keeping in mind that the driver or rider is probably going to do something that could kill you.

Usually in cases where the other vehicle is getting ready to turn in front of you, slowing down and giving yourself more room or an escape route is plan A.

You must be slamming them on to get the thing chirping. Which is usually one of 3 things poor observation/anticipation and reaction time , an emergency stop due to unforeseen events or thirdly low speed heavy braking

Nope - high speed, very heavy braking.. Totally planned & deliberate.. I like to know my brake & handling limits on bikes in 'semi-controlled' conditions..

Glad you handled the situation and made it home ok! I remember my father telling me "sometimes you have to drive for other drivers " and unfortunately that's an understatement here in the northeast US. I've recently returned from a trip to Oregon and can attest to how well and courteous the drivers are out there. The roads were immaculate and perfect riding weather too!!
May I suggest practicing emergency braking taking your brakes and tires to the edge of failure just so you can learn the limits of your equipment. I do almost every time I ride.
    Cheers

I agree...OR is amazing!! If I can't move to CA, I'm considering OR.

Yeah, I have definitely had lots of practice with emergency braking as you have, though I haven't purposefully practiced since I picked up this moto a couple years ago. All my practice has been forced since then. But I agree on getting to know the limits...that's how I've known just how much I can do without creating a bigger mess.

Lol cool you're thinking of a better quality of life. Oregon is my idea of heaven and my girlfriend too. California is restricted in every way just like ny. I had to give my orange from chile to the border check guard lol

Oh yes you did! I was just up there this summer, but I did not get to venture much into OR since I stayed the coastal route into WA.
Will definitely have to come back and practice braking skills on those immaculates!
