I sometimes scare the crap out of myself by forgetting to cancel a turn signal after changing lanes or turning at an intersection. Someday I'll T-bone some car that believes my signal. Is there an aftermarket timer that will cancel turn signals after some set time? Harleys have this, why don't our VFRs?

I have the VFR wiring diagram and don't mind doing some home wiring with the soldering gun. Anyone have a suggestion for me?

So on my ST1300 I installed the Kissan Signal Minder. When activated it blinks for 10 seconds, then cancels. The problem is that if you activate it too soon, it'll cancel just prior to, or while you're in the process of going through the turn. Between maneuvering the bike and keeping a sharp eye out for numptys trying to kill you the last thing you need to be doing at such a critical moment is trying to re-activate the turn signal button.
I haven't bothered to put one on the VFR.

I wonder if they offer them with mercury switches or accelerometers? My stock BMW turn signal cancels 10 seconds after the turn is completed but I never use it. I always manually turn it off.

I cut my wires. Had to keep re turning the signals on.

Signal, get in touch the turn lane, signal cancels. Haven't turned yet, so signal again.

Or, crossing a large highway, I just leave my signal on, so that everyone knows my intent.

I have an 8th Gen. No canceler on mine, no ABS or other electronic frills. Maybe I'll try the Kisan canceler that was mentioned above.

Some years ago I bought a specifically design buzzer, about 2cm round, that is loud enough to hear when running with 100km/h. It just goes wired on the signal relay. Near 6 years since installing and still run loudly.

Maybe that's the simplest solution. Where did you get it? Thanks for your reply.

I do ride in Utah every year. My forgetfulness with the turn signal must be the reason I get so many interesting hand signals back from other drivers.

It was so long ago that I do not remember. A search on google or ebay will return a lot of options for motorcycle audible turn signal.

John, are you saying that you forget to use them? You should be treated like family here. Those hand signals must of come from transplants from other states.;-) Natives hate all the "watch out for motorcycles" campaigns. They feel like we are selfish, unlawful, pains in the ass motorists. They want you to have a Big ass truck or SUV so they don't feel guilty about not seeing you while on the phone, texting.:) The hand signal is meant to be an internal self reminder that they suck at driving and should not affect you!;-) NEVER EVER LANE SPLIT in Utah. I have seen a couple of instances of intentional blockage that could have gone bad with lots of hand signals and horns added.

Speaking of Utah drivers: Why are there so many huge SUVs all in black or dark blue there? Haven't they heard of solar heating of their dark vehicles? They must use most of their gasoline just to run the air conditioners.

Your suggestion seems to be simple and practical. I've ordered one and look forward to trying it. Who knows, it might save my life.

What if I do it quick and blast off at warp speed after? :)

I used to have a 1977 Yamaha with self cancelling turn signals.
Why it's not on every street bike made today, who knows. :Noidea:

It matches the color of their suits. Back in the day it was suburbans with two tones. They needed them for all of the kids they carry around. The New Tahoes, Eclalates, Yukons etc. are now a style issue. And most are government workers. ;-)

Thanks for the suggestion. I ordered one. It cost all of $7 and came in a few days. Directly from the mailbox it was installed immediately. I put it under the seat and connected to the rear turn signals as the easiest access to the wiring. It's pretty loud - I slapped a couple of layers of duct tape (red to match my VFR) over the face of the buzzer. Yippee. need to go for a ride tomorrow.

It may be loud but that's the way it should be. At high speed you'll not hear it anymore if you duct taped it. Being loud also makes the traffic participants both aware of the sound and more aware because the noise may not be familiar to them. Mine makes a loud beeping noise similar a truck backing up:)
