Black Plastic Clips on Fairing..Need to Order

OK., I read they were aggravating, and yes they are. I was being extremely careful and gentle, but still broke one of the black plastic clips when re-assembleing the Left Side Fairing.
I've searched Ebay, and the Forums, but I have not seen a link to order the original Honda Fasteners. I saw a site where they recommended GM Fasteners, but I would prefer the Honda ones.
I'm trying to avoid having to order from the Local Honda Dealer unless I just have to.

If you know of a site/link to order, please let me know. Thanks in Advance for your help.

 

The Honda part# for the trim clips is: 90683-GAZ-003

I have just finished replacing all of the crap aftermarket clips the previous owner used when he broke the originals on my '02.

Honda missed the boat in so far as there is no mention of how the clips are taken out and replaced in the owner's manual (at least in the '02 manual), or maybe it is intentional.

My 2007 Manual gives detailed instruction, but they are not built to last. 2007 Manual States:

1. Press down Center Pin to release the lock. (I used a screwdriver to press the center, and it pops right out.)
2. Pull the clip out of the hole.

To Install:
1. Slightly open the retaining pawls and then push them out.
2. Insert the clip into the hole.
3. Lightly press down on the center pin to lock the clip.

BikeBandit.com has the actual blow-up parts diagrams with part numbers. Just follow the link for OEM parts, enter your bike and year and start looking through the drawings.

 

Do a search. Somebody post the Honda instructions on how to remove and insert the OEM clips when you get them.

 

Follow these directions exactly, and they'll work just fine. A little tricky until you get the hang of it.

 

I went by the local Honda Dealer today and picked up 3 ($2.50 a piece) of them.
One to replace the broken one, and two more just in case I need them in the future.
The guy at the Honda Dealer told me be glad I didn't have CBR because those bikes had about double the number of plastic clips than the Interceptor.

 

He's right.. My XX has a TON of those...

 

I found clips at mt local auto store that would work..I just took an old clip and they found me a few .

 

The only area between these two clips that is different, seems to be where the Honda clip most often fails. The after market clip looks far more reliable. What do you think?

The fastener on the right is an OEM item from my 07 Honda VFR Interceptor. They are a common fastener used on Honda bikes and seem to be pretty easy to brake. They run nearly $3 each at the dealer.

The fastener on the left is a "GM Push Type" (Ret. 1/4"; hole, TR 240B), which I ordered from thefastenerwarehouse.com at about 24 cents each (minimum order 100 to get the best price - $24.00 with shipping). You can get them for about 90 cents each for a fewer quantity.



The GM Type are a good fit on the VFR, with no mods needed (no expanding the hole) and are a lot heavier-duty than the Honda clips.

 

Lowes has some fastners like this too.

 

So I tried the aftermarket Philips screw clips. The fit great and hold nice. But It is a little difficult to get a screw driver in there to fasten them. Pretty tight confinement for a screw driver. Those popup clips look to be the real answer.
