Yes! Many years ago though. Do (did) you have a Spyder? They are fairly rare here, especially the face lifted 2003+ models.

After all of these posts including mine, I have come to the concussion that I am doing what we all are doing. But, I did use the technique of rolling forward when I could before engaging 1st. It did make the change less dramatic not that it was to much to begin with. Thanks for the advice. Not possible at every stop, but when possible I will do so. The only large "CLUNCK" that I have had with this bike or others is when I am cruzing along in say 2nd to 3rd gear (30-45mph) and engaged the clutch to coast. Then trying to re-engage and found that I was in a "lost" gear. I did not want to go lower so I upshifted and that is when the "Hard CLUNCK" occurred. Not a pretty sound. I do not do that anymore. Thanks to all that posted. I have my answer!

Same name "GatorGreg". That looks like the Phantom Gray in your pic - very nice! Can't remember if that color was ever offered in the U.S. Mine was Silver Streak - all my non-car nut friends thought it was a Porsche LOL. One of my older brothers had a Mk1 when I was a kid - always liked those too.

Another Oregon thing... ORS 811.495 Not a good thing. Rolling the bike forward on a big incline (hill) depends on which end is pointed up or down.

The clutch mechanism is spinning all the time. Downshifts are fine if ya got big pesos for new trannys. Upshifts are fine if ya know how or have certain models of BMW bike.

Another this ain't nothin new thing. Some bikes depending on a shitload of things have a shitload of different types of clutches. Upshifting by "separation" was done on some street stockers and a shitload of racebikes with not much more than a 3-4" piece of a hacksaw blade wired to the magneto and taped to the right hand part of the handlebars with (yes, this might be a plug of sorts) Scotch #33 Electrical Tape.

Waiting at long lights I'm in neutral all the time, after I have checked that I'm not going to get ass packed by a distracted driver. If the clunk bothers you do what Terry said, and you can just hold the clutch in for an extra second or 2 when you put it back in gear. As Terry said, more wear and tear just sitting there in gear with the clutch pulled in. I really only notice Hardley dudes waiting for 3 minutes in gear at a light.

    Update: no update.

Picked the bike up from the dealership yesterday as they were "unable to replicate the problem".

Long story short: got the runaround (and additional lectures on how to shift a bike) and will ride her until the problem occurs again. Here's hoping it was just a tiny metal shaving temporarily jamming the shift forks.

Before you do your next oil change, get yourself a drain plug with a built in magnet, if there any shavings floating around it will help snag them.
