Just came back from a great trip to Wellsboro PA.
Doing some local twisties. The check engine light comes on when I hit a straight away and the engine
    Cuts out completely.
All electrical still working but the bike won't turn over.
I wait thirty minutes and try to start the bike.
I finally call my local shop and get the bike picked up.
The truck virtually takes the bike vertical as it loads.
As soon as the bike is delivered to the shop and unloaded it starts right up with
    No check engine light on.
Anyone experienced this on the 1200??
I left the bike to get checked out.
    No word back yet

Did you over fill the gas tank?

Sounds like a loose electrical connection. Wanna take bets that the dealer says they can't find a problem??

    Nope.
Was down two fuel bars when it happened and I had full electrical.
The bike would not turn over.
Despite charging me for three hours labour the shop
    Did not find the problem.

Did you ever find out what the problem was? Have you experienced it again? 3hrs of labor at an authorized Honda dealer is not cheap, I would not be satistfied with this.

I recently experienced the very same problem with my 1200 VFR (28 months old having done about 15000 kms) during a long trip in South Africa. On day one, after about 500 km, the ABS light stayed on when I started the bike after a stop. About 25 km later the bike cut out and would not rev past idle. After a while it restarted. I stopped about 10 km later and called Honda Assist.
The technician came out, tightened some wires and I rode the 25 km back to the shop to have the diagnostics done. The diagnostics showed "power interruption" . Thinking it was a loose wire, we proceeded on the trip.
Seven days and and about 2000 km of problem free riding later, the same thing happened. Except this time the battery was dead and did not turn over the engine. After about 40 minutes we were able to jump start the bike using another battery. From there I rode another two days and about 1000 km home without a problem.
The bike is now been in the shop for a week, but they have been unable to find the problem to date.
What now? Any pointers? How does one trust this bike again on a long trip?

I did overfeel the tank today. After riding about 50 miles check engine light came on. After another 50 m I stopped. When I started the bike again the light was off. It didn't turn on anymore on the way home; another 30 miles.

We were also riding a bit harder today than normal. I went top speed for a while and such. Maybe that's a clue too. The bike ran normal when the light was on

I once accidentally hit the kill switch. That day I was wearing new heavy gloves. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with my vfr1200f. Ignition was on etc. it took some time to solve this, felt pretty dumb.
