Hey Guys, new to the Forums, I have had my VFR1200F 2010 since day 1 in 2011. I have done:

    - 1/2 gear mod to 3rd gear
    - K&N filter
    - 2 Bros slip-on with No DB Killer
    - Pair Modification
    - Power commander 5
    - O2 optimizers

Next on the list is the Auto Tune kit and catalytic converter removed.

My question is and I have seen others do it, but how much louder does the exhaust get with the catalytic converted removed and straight pipe in place? I am asking because I had a good talk with Dynojet regarding the Auto Tune kit. If you remove the cat, then you will only need the single O2 sensor Auto tune kit. But If I don't remove the Cat, I will need the dual sensor kit to get readings from both headers. Right now bike is within acceptable noise laws in Edmonton where I live but want to know how much louder will it get by removing the cat. Anyone have any DB numbers or something?

    Thanks

    John

Do yourself a favor. Toss the:

    - 1/2 gear mod to 3rd gear
    - Power commander 5
    - O2 optimizers

In the trash and get your ECU flashed by Guhl. People are making over 160whp with the Guhl flash plus kn filter/slip on/cat delete. Sorry to tell you, power commander is a joke. Try and sell your PC while you can and don't invest any more into it. There are plenty of 7th gen cat delete posts on VFRD if you search for them.

I am going to keep the PCV and get the auto tune. Have had this on my GSXR1000 and quite happy with it. However I have never done a Decat before. Again, my questions is how much louder does the exhaust get. I could put in the P1X power tip from 2 bros to bring the DB's down a bit after the Decat. Does anyone have a sound clip of the exhaust or know the db's? youtube is pretty terrible

Honestly, installing a slip on and decatting the header, only to install a restrictive tip in the muffler, is the most counter-intuitive thing that I have ever heard of.
In fact, its almost as counter-intuitive as spending all the time involved in installing a K&N filter/slip on/power commander/autotune, gutting the cat and totally ignoring the real restriction on the vfr1200, the ignition and throttle mapping....

I understand that the P1X restrictive tip would not be the best thing to do. Currently the bike is running around 85-89 at idle and around 95 dbs at 5000 rpms. i cant exceed I believe around 100 dbs at 5000 rpms. The cops out here can be quite brutal to deal with ($250 ticket every time). Honestly all the mods would not be worth it if the tickets add up if you know what I mean. If I do the cat mod, is there someone who knows roughly what the DB's are? This is a very simple question. I am doing these mods to make the bike run way better but not get a million tickets either

I am a fan of two brothers, but they are on the loud side. If you are trying to stay quiet, you would be better off with Dam or Akrapovic. I understand that you think that you are doing the right mods to make the bike better, but you really are not. There is no point in modifying the exhaust to be more free flowing, if you are just going to cap off the end of it. There is also not much point in going overboard correcting the air/fuel ratios, if you aren't even going to correct the real restrictions, THE THROTTLE AND IGNITION MAPPING.

Dam is really the only offering that seems to care about noise db output. Are you clicking the links?

    Factory is 92.5 db
    Dam open is 94.5 db
    Dam restricted is 92 db

Those are all much lower than your two brothers (though I'm sure testing was different). Even after cutting out the cat, if you do it right, I wouldn't expect the Dam to get too much louder. It would probably stay below 100db as long as you leave the header's resonators in place. If you upgraded the resonators inside of the header, I am sure you could ditch the cat and make it quieter at the same time.

I really wanted the akrapovic exhaust but it was not available when I bought my bike in 2011 so I settled for the 2bros. I ended up talking to Don at Guhl Motors recently. Essentially he would do everything I did for mods in the ECU and a few more things. It would be over $600 for the Reflash with the dollar conversion and shipping and stuff. I guess I got some thinking to do.

Based on your goals, I would sell the power commander and two brothers and use those funds towards a Dam slip on and Guhl flash.
