The other day I noticed a puff of smoke coming from under the left side panel of my '85 700. Pulling it off I noticed the wires coming out of the rectifier at the quick connect plug were melting. Any ideas as to what would be causing something like this and what would I do to fix it?

For anyone who has had a similar problem, it turns out the problem was pretty simple. Corrosion had built up in the quick connect plug, created a lot more resistance, to the point where the plug finally melted. I cut out the bad connection, spliced in a new one and all better now. Its obvious from what I've been reading on this site, the electrical wiring systems on these bikes are pretty basic and any corrosion anywhere is enough to really screw things up. The good result out of this is I made a good inspection of the rest of my connections.
