Does anyone know where I can buy an aftermarket set of footpegs for a 3rd gen? I loved commuting today on the bike, until my legs became numb from all the vibrations through the pegs! It would be cool to have some pegs with a rubber top to them, maybe the vfr800 pegs would fit?

Any help would be appreciated! :)

I found some old tubing and slipped it over the pegs, it made quite a difference with the vibrations already! I'm going to keep improving it and see where I end up! :)

Pretty sure 5th gen wouldn't fit. I was looking for a set off the 4th gen and found they don't, so there's a very good chance the 5th gens won't, but sounds like you have it worked out.

Double check your rear tire pressure.

Double check behind the foot peg and passenger foot peg plates--there is supposed to be a weight bolted to the back side of one of these to change the vibration frequency. You can try to add or reduce the weight to adjust the frequency and amplitude of vibration. i think there is a buzzing around 5krpm that seems to come from the fuel cap.

I took off the left rear set and I didn't see any weights.. (where can I buy some?) Also here's some photos of my ghetto tube cover lol.

Is it in both foot pegs or just one? Sounds like both ... if it is both, is one worse than the other?

How's the condition of your chain and sprockets? What's the tension like?

    Did it make a difference?
I used the same type of hose on the shifter on my old GS850. Worked like a charm.
Does it say accuflex on the hose? I had picked up the piece of hose in Ottawa sometime ago and it was in the bottom of my tool bag. By coincidence the piece that I used had the manufacture code on it and it was made by a friend of mine years ago when he worked there in Guelph.

Hmm, I'm starting to wonder just how good the chain is here.

Chain and sprockets are in pretty great condition (probably less than 3 years old) it seems the tension is slightly tight, but not bad. I will adjust it.

Rear tire pressure was at 39 psi, I dropped it to 34 and also brought the front to 32.

It seems slightly worse on the left side, but both are pretty bad (my guess is the all the things attached on the right side like the brake switch, etc. Help dampen thing a tiny bit).

Any idea where I can get the replacement weights from? Both sides appear to be missing.

I've been trying ebay, not exactly sure what part number to type?? I tried "rearsets" but I don't need the whole unit, and it's expensive!

Maybe try an archery store for bow balancers and rethread the peg bracket

If you would like to test it first, you might tape some lead wheel weights onto the rear sets and go for a ride. Try .25, .5, 1, 2, 4 lbs etc to see what works best. Then adjust as desired to fine tune.

There are low-melting-point alloys used for casting, e.g. cerrocast, Bolden 281 and the like, that could be poured into the back recess, then drill holes for mounting, once you know the weight amount you like.

It's only the 3rd gen that seems to have this issue, maybe related to the frame acting like a tuning fork at certain frequencies to cause that left peg to ring.

The weights are harmonic dampers, is there a RPM range that it worst? Things tend to sympathetically vibrate based on their mass (& other things). There is a companyy that makes aftermarket dampers for Gen 6 handle bars, called Vibranators, I used them on my 2003 & they worked great.

It's not common to have irritable vibration in the foot pegs of a V4. The thing should run like a sewing machine. So anything you do to the pegs is likely a bandaid to a bigger problem that could bite you hard later.

Improper fuel mixture can cause the V4 to run harsh. You might try to see if it's running lean. The PAIR system would need to be temporarily disabled to get an accurate sniff at the tail pipe.

I was just thinking this myself. Honda V4 is known to be smooth compared to other configurations.

Everything is pretty much stock on the bike, does have an aftermarket slip on yoshi pipe, but it's really quiet so I doubt it changed the air fuel much.

I checked the plugs and they looked good, nice healthy color, not black or white.

I don't know if it's normal or not, but in my research it seems that many people were complaining about the 3rd gen vibrations. Again, this is only in my foot pegs, no where else seems on the bike vibrates (the bars do a tiny bit, but it's not a big deal at all)
