Front seat adjustment (lowering) comments

    Hi guys,

    Not sure if anyone has tried changing the seat height on their VFR's, but I lowered mine today to see if that would quiet the wind noise down at highway speeds.
    I noticed improvements instantly!
    More comfortable reach to the ground (I'm 5'11"), noticeable improvement in handling due to lowered center of gravity and much less tucking needed at highway speeds to get under the wind (I have also changed the windscreen to a Puig racing model).
    Needless to say, don't underestimate how much of a difference this can potentially make to customize the fitment of your bike! :)

    I felt like lowering seat jammed me up at knees...I'm 5'8". I found a compromise. I put the front of the seat on the higher setting and the back lower...flattened the seat out, stopped sliding forward. Height is somewhere in between now..1 cm ...it's the little things

    I do feel it a bit more at the knees, but the other improvements outweigh that for me.
    I'm just happy that we have the option to even make these changes :).
    I guess the only other thing that would be cool, is adjustable rear sets / pegs!

    And adjustable shift lever would be nice...always had that on my other bikes...this one you have to pull the pedal and move it a notch which happened to be a large change. One advantage to having the seat raised....air flows under seat. Keeps it cooler in the summer.

    Like ALAN558, I found that lowering was a plus and a minus to me. To lower the seat to make my 5'9" body with bad knees tp meet ground was great, but when riding it made more pressure on the knees. I made it a decision to raise my upper body! Hench the 1.25 bar risers. They made the bike tolerable to me. In this, my drunken response, someone posted "True" positing with height vs. ergonomics on the bike. Some have posted lowering the bike, but have found that this effects the handling. To a point of being dangerous! I will look into lowering the pegs at my height. But at 5'11" I suggest bar risers and not the OEM ones. Research the threads on bar risers and lower pegs!

    Have just gone the opposite way have yet still to try it over any distance on a straight road. On the twisty stuff no difference felt.

    Took your advice on this one and tried it out. The lowered pegs help more room for my legs and the bar risers bring the bars up a bit. The biggest difference is not sliding forward towards the tank all the time - a big plus. I do feel more "on" the bike than "in" it now, but I'll get used to it.

    I used the lowered position for a few thousand kms and ended up going back to the raised position instead (it was too hard on my knees) but very happy the bike actually has the option to even change the seat height!

    Try the higher setting in the front and the lower rear...is the perfect compromise

    I'm 5'9 and I decided to lower the seat and then I added the MotoPumps .6" risers. I tried the 1.2" risers but that was too much. I have abad back with silicon spacer installed between my L3/L4 and riding the bike seems to make my back and body feel better. The complete opposite of my Boulevard M109.

    Love this bike!

    I bought the bike mostly because it just felt right when I first sat on it. After some riding I tried it with the seat lowered for a couple of weeks, but I felt trapped in the seat behind the tank bag. I went back to the higher position and can move around better. (I also got a Sargeant seat, but it's the same height, just flatter profile.) I'm 5'9" and with the seat like this I don't feel the need for risers or changed foot peg position. Nevertheless, it's lots of fun to feel like you've personalized your ride. Go for it.

    Alan, when you put the front of the seat up, did you leave the screws and rubber blocks on at the front ?

    This is what I did and it's worked out great for me, no more sliding forward into the tank. Keep the rubber bumpers in place and the front of the seat on the higher setting, the rear, lower. Try it, you can always switch back if it's not for you.

    Good luck - I wish the weather here would cooperate so I could get the bike out, but I'm at least a month away from that ....

    My bike came with the lower setting so I raised it to give me more space on the bike. This did expose my head a bit more so I fitted a Puig screen. Pretty much bob on now.

    I put mine in the lower position and liked it a lot. If you find your knees feel cramped, slide yo back side toward the rear of the seat give it a little gas, lean into the turn and you will forget all about it.

    I'm 5'8", put the seat on the lower setting, added 0.6" Motopumps bar risers, all is right in the world. :)
