I have a massive fuel leak under the metal plate covering the carburetors. I need to remove the plate to get to the leak but I've been unsuccessful in getting the small phillips screws to come loose. I've tried wrench free and heat but that hasn't worked yet. There is a procedure in my Clymer book to remove the whole assembly but I'm not real enthused about that. Is that what it's going to take?

Those screws are almost certainly not Phillips screws, they are probably Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS). It's very hard to get a Phillips head screwdriver to bite hard on a JIS screw head. More often than not you just end up ruining the JIS screw head.

Surprisingly, the profile of a drywall driver bit (from Home Depot) is very close to the JIS profile, and it will grip a JIS screw head pretty well.
