Agree the VFR750 Gen4 with it's NR750 influenced styling is arguably the most attractive of all the Gens though each Gen have their own distinct flair, the Gen6 with its sharp futuristic robotech looks, with the Gen 5 I think Silver perhaps shows off best its look of high quality like it was carefully honed out of a solid metal billet.

Wow thanks V4--- RVFR and OOTV have posted rear facing vid that is just orgasmic sounding. Never noticed the whine with the front facing vids.

Agree with the "Billet" look well said! i had the seat cowl and the high level exhaust which looked cool.Styling and bike style is a very personal thing each to their own. 5th gen best of the breed i think the debate will go on forever:potstir:

I agree 100%. I had the pleasure of being an Internet Manager for a local Dealership. I've taken just about everything around the block since we regularly stocked over 100 Pre-Owned bikes. Anyway, I have about 5,000 Miles on my new to me Yellow 5th Gen (35,000 Miles on the clock) and it's the smoothest bike on/off throttle I've ridden since my previous bike. A 2002 CBR1100XX purchased new. For people shopping for VFRs who may read this thread, I have no problems at slow speed. The VFR is a dream to ride in and around surface streets. My bike is stock. Not sure why some owners have problems with in their bike in type of riding. I am not the fastest rider, nor the slowest. My Blackbird had Linked Brakes and I'm happy my VFR has them. The rear end just seem to settle down so nice under hard braking. Maybe it's only the legit fast guys who notice? I've never been on a knee, so those level guys know much better. Linked Brakes are all I've known for the previous 50,000 Miles, on two bikes. I have about 1,000 laps on Palomar Mountain, CA when I lived there, so I've played aroud at all lean angles. Can't wait to get my 5th Gen to some twisties! Nice thread. Thanks OP

There's may be prettier VFRs, but is what the G5 doesn't have that to me, makes it the most desirable.

    No cam chain.
    No carburetors.
    No v-tec
    No catalitic converters
    No excess weight

Here's a good example of the sound of gear driven cams. With the outboard gear placement, they're a bit more audible on 5th gen than earlier.

The Wolf exhaust is one of the best sounding IMHO.

Yep was just going to type up, the gear whine on a 5th is more noticeable than th e3rd and4th gens, still magical, yet the softer drone to it being in the middle IMO is a wee bit sweeter.

One or two journalism dudes touting any bike as the best, hoping to get a few sheep herded in some direction is crap, catering mostly to dudes that have that particular bike. The dudes that have the bike are going to agree because they need to protect their turf and not admit that maybe they made a mistake buying the wrong bike.

A great example of this is any harleydood babble.

BB what you say is generically true though in the case of the Gen5 after 11 years of ownership and trying many friends newer faster modern bikes, sitting here for breakfast the morning of day 2 of my current 3 day ride there is no mistake for me this has been and continues to be the right bike.

As as many times I try looking at other machines that I think will be the new ticket, other than a whole different machine for a different purpose, I find after a ride on said machine I figured would be it. Ha, the VFR especially if one has tweaked it a bit more so to their liking, it's a hard one to beat. God knows I've tried. That damn Ape..

At a guess he like many gen 4 & 5 owners do after many years of ownership when thinking nice, new and shiny find as they're ready to trade on a replacement bike are likely to snatch the VFRs keys back and run off just as they're about to sign.

What John said. In short, if there is a thing, every time I get it to get another machine that I believe at that moment, it's the one that has it all, then a test ride, then some research, then I ride thys VFR, only to find I pretty much have the right bike. especially for the $$$$. But dang it ....that Ape RSV4 Tuono is something else. ;)

I was convinced by the qualities of the 5th gen, and so I bought my blue VFR, am extremely happy with it. It's build date is 12/1999, the serial number indicates an 2000 model.

What makes the 1999 model better than other 5th gen models as was previously mentioned?

I wouldn't say better, more a case of what one prefers over the other. 00-01 have O2s, and a cat in the exhaust along with having smaller primarys, a wax unit for cold starting where as the 98-99 have a enriching lever that acts like a choke from prior vfrs, dash numbers are a different font, 00-01 have metal mirror stocks. I've also heard, but not documented, 00-01 also have a slightly different ratio of interaction on the linked brakes. they are different starting with the the 02 VFR , so maybe. Here states side the biggest obvious was yellow for 00
