And I have never done it on a bike. I have always had a car or truck to load all the toys into. I guess because of the size of the bike rifles are going to be left at home. I just can't see a place to put them discreetly. I do think that some pistols in a pistol box inside a backpack with some ammo will be easy. I guess every time that I go the 24 mile drive thru some mountains has always been part of it but if I can't shoot for very long I guess it will be a bigger part. Any suggestions on what I can do.

My pistols are 9mm Taurus (looks like a berreta), 40 S&W EAA Witness, Browning buckmark .22. Should be some fun to take these out for the first shoot of the season. Now that I have a bike it should be a lot of fun to ride there too.

For those familiar with the area its the shooting range that is south of Baily, Co near pine national forest. Its a huge riding area there are hills twisty roads and not many cops.

California folk and you poor Ozzie's who have been disarmed I dedicate the ride to you.
Here are some pictures... (fixed the hotlinking problem)

This is cool that we talk about all our toys right? Or should I just ban myself?:banplease: :hippie:

Being in CA, I can still get my pistols to the range because of my saddle bags. the guns go in one and the ammo in the other. best of all is both bags lock. I know Honda wasn't thinking about my needs when they designed them but those saddlebags sure do come in handy

About Kalifornia gun laws?....you are sooo right. As a native I am ashamed of how our state seems to be going down the tubes.

Just take a look at our road conditions. We are now rated 48th in good roads.
I was on a road in the hills above my house last weekend (San Francisco bay area) and if I would have been riding on magnesium wheels I probably would not have made it back home on my viffer. :bump: after :bump: and lots and lots of potholes.

    OK dlman:

We have moved to the appropriate thread!

Since you did it the kit way, where did you pick up your receivers from? And do you have a press and tools to put that AK's togther? I assume you must. Damn, I wish you lived closer. I would love to do a kit AK, but I lack the tools.

The mags you picked up, are they 30's or 40's? And do have any drums?? I was lucky and picked up some when they were 40 bucks!

I almost bought an AR, but the money went to purchase the 97VFR . I just do not shoot like I used to. DE is pretty gun friendly, but time and cost limit me. Generally, I shoot with some friends in DE, but when I go to PA, I'll meet up with my old gun crew and we'll do some shooting then.

I used to shoot all the time, it was my life when I lived in PA. Competition, fun, the annual machine gun shoot that used to be in Brownsville, PA. It was great, I do miss it, but as I tell people: "A working man can only afford one hobby". And motorcycling ain't cheap LOL! Every now and then I fund the purchase of a new gun.

Let me know about the kits!

I hear you there. Commieforya pisses me off and I am starting to see a bunch of transplants showing up here. I was thinking about making a small stand with bumper stickers that says something like "We don't care how you did things in Kalifornia" I don't mind them spending millions on luxery condos but its only a matter of time before they say we need our dogs names printed on their bowls or else you get a ticket. That kinda stupidity will not go well with me.

I hear you on the streets thing. During the winter the roads got pretty bad as well. Federal Blvd is so bad that I wouldn't go on it with anything less than a motorcross bike. I have seen smoother jeep trails.

However, some of the highways are still good albeit covered with gravel. I can't drive to close behind anybody without being pelted to death.

I have done all the kits myself. I didn't buy the receivers because of an issue with the FFL. He wanted way to much for the simple transfer. So I went another route and started building my own receivers from those 80% flats. After a few dollars invested in some steel and some plans a couple receivers saved me enough money to pay for the jig and the G kit. They are simple to fold once you get the jig in the right dimensions. I had to invest in a special tool though to press it in the jig a 2x4 piece of wood. It seems to transfer energy from the sledgehammer without breaking anything.

After the receiver is folded I had to heat treat the ejector to a hardness that wasn't easy at first (mostly because I am retarded and didn't follow instructions right) It was a matter of filing the receiver to fit the barrel trunnion and rear trunnion. Most people will rivet the gun together for a authentic look but I made some small tack welds in the place where the rivets go and it was done. Haven't had one weld fail yet.:laser:

Oh I forgot to answer the other questions... The AR was about $850 new bone stock. There are cheaper ways to get one and all you do is buy the parts seperate and put it together yourself. It could run about $500.

All the mags I have are 30 rd except 4 that are 40 rd mags. I don't have any drums but I want one. Chinese if I can get one but Romanian if the price is right. Should be fun shooting prone with a drum. But I do have a 20 rd hungarian that works pretty well for that.

How much did the dealer want for folded receivers? I've seen'em for 150-200?

Much more than that and I would not be interested.

Sounds like you got it down with putting one together. And as you know, always read the directions LOL!

The Romanian and Chinese drums are great. I have Chinese. Never had any problems as long as you wind them correctly. Otherwise they just stop or you get smokestack jams. That's how you know.

The only reason that I got into motorcycleing now instead of earlier is economy and it looks cool. But you are right I can't afford both hobbies now. The last gun I bought was the Taurus (pictured above). But I don't see a problem with doing both. Its like children you have to spread the love around.

The receivers were $75 dollars and the dealer slammed me with another $75 for the transfer. Back then I was unemployed and on a shoe string budget of $300 a week. I was able to make the jig and sell that online for a while.

Buying the receiver would save you some time. But you would pay for it. The folding of your own is simple enough. And there isn't a paper trail that follows you around for 20 years at the FFL.

$40 for a drum! Wow that would have been nice. When were they so reasonable?

I went to centerfire systems for the receiver, I think they use Ohio (the rest of the name escapes me) receivers. I bought the flats from tapco. I buy a lot of stuff from them.

1993 was a good year for drum purchases! Had I knownthey would be 100 each now, I would have bought 10!

My friend has 20 Romanian and 10 Chinese. He bought them same time I did, but from a different person.

Unfortunantly, deals like that are gone.

I was just out in CO, and it is a very pretty state. I was in the Grand Juction area. Seems like meth is a problem in your area. That's all I heard about when i was there. Hey, Co allows class III weapons don't they?

I got in bikes when I lived in Maryland because that socialist nanny state was expensive to shoot in, and I did not have the economy LOL. I had always wanted to ride and the roads were plenty and the hobby was pretty inexpensive, at first.

When I moved to Delaware, shooting on a regular basis can be done, but now time is limited. I have a 9 month old(boy) so free time is bike time!

I like the EAA Witness too, always seemed like a great pistol.

Meth is a problem for everyone I don't let it bother me. Although my truck broke down recently and I had a meth house machanic work on it. He stole my plates!!! I got my truck out of there and reported the plates stolen. They did all that work and I only paid for the new rear end.

Our masters let us have everything here. Denver CLEO won't sign off on my paperwork so I had to incorprate myself to get around that. I was buying a suppresor for my .22. I was toying with the idea of getting a MP5 but couldn't get the financeing 10k for the sear and gun and suppresor. That was a steal too now they are going for 15k just for a registered gun.

You wouldn't want to part with any of your china drums would you?

The witness is a great gun. I have never had a problem with it. They were made to change the calibers easily and the mags are easy to find. I have to say that it has even saved my life once.

What's the problem with the paperwork? You can do a form 1 with the ATF on the suppressor. It's too long to discuss here, the process, but if you jump on their website or call they should be able to go over what the Form 1 entails. You can only do this with suppressors and shotguns. They will not let you Form 1 a machine gun. In a nutshell, a form 1 lets you build a suppressor for a particular gun or saw a shotgun barrel below 18". You hvae to pay the tax stamp and wait for the paperwork to clear then you can do the work.

Yeah, 10 grand sounds right. I can't beleive the prices on Class III.

Unless I win the lottery and move back to PA, I'll never own one.

And thanks for the offer, but I can't replace the drums for what I got them for!

Watch out for the meth addicts, it's like the movie 28 Days Later out there, bunch of infected nutcases running around LOL!

It was so fucking stupid. But I borrowed my GF's car to go to court for a speeding ticket. I was trying to do it on the cheap and save on gas. When I got paid I took my truck and her car to the gas station. I pulled in and started fueling with her behind we were just going to move the cars and fill up both cars. Some scumbag cholo was behind us and thought that since I was at the pump first it belong to him. And even though other pumps opened up he had to have mine. So we finished and I was walking over to a parking spot to get into my truck when the cholo's boyfriend pulled in behind me and blocked the path. He got out with a tball bat and went right up to me as I was opening the door. He said that I was hogging the pumps and really hurt his feelings (or something like that) I thought I would explain that if he thought that me being at the pump first meant that he owned it I was sorry but that is all I am going to say on it. Please move your car.

He got all loced up and was saying his gang is bad, cool whatever... He lifted the bat like he wanted to swing it. I pulled the witness out of under my seat leveled it at his head. I told him to drop the bat and ask him nicly to move his car or we would have a problem. He dropped it and paused for second. I told him to leave. He moved away slowly and left. He boyfriend was off in the background hiding. I was watching him to. But I really think that I would have gotten hurt badly if I didn't have a bigger stick. Ironicly, I was on my way to a gunshow because I didn't have any bullets for the witness and I was hoping to get 500 or so and a 30 rd mag if they had any.

You can part with the drum I will give you a price for it. You should share.:fear:

The paperwork was easy and this was the only time I have done it. But I filled out a form 4 but couldn't get it signed off on by the chief o' police.

I got my suppressor by starting a company and having it buy it. Then leasing it to me. One doesn't need the fingerprints, photos and most importantly the chief doesn't have to sign off.

If I ever get off my ass and start building those gas less engines I want to. I won't need to win the lotto to buy toys galore. But I am still planning out the prototype and finding it hard to make time.

One of the many reasons I think law abiding people should be able to carry.

How much are drums going for in your area? I see them for 100 in Shotgun news, and Romanian ones for 75.

I only have a few, as in 2, otherwise I would totally share.

Have you ever heard of J&G sales out of Arizona? They generally have a decent price on them.

I'll keep my eyes open and see what deals are out their to help a fellow AK owner!
