QUOTE=Lint;506888]I am giving this thread CPR in order to ask this question. Is this the correct RAM MOUNT to fit into the tank bolts? The bike I'm picking up has a Powerlett outlet in the center of the top triple clamp.

    From Ram Mounts:

    ETA:
What is the thread pitch etc of the tank bolts?[/QUOTE]

    On gen 6, M6 x 1, and 1.6"/~40mm spacing.

Redwing beat me but I found some cool references. I show the tank bolt as BOLT, FLANGE (6X14). Using:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_metric_screw_thread

It shows the 6 mm diameter as 1.0 mm pitch, a nice round number. Metric is peak-to-peak n'est pas? Thus you might be able to eyeball it against a ruler to verify it.

Also check out this printable thread gauge, LOL how cool is that? Of course my eyes won't work with some of these anymore.

Thanks to both of y'all. Now, I just need to know if the RAM unit will fit. 15/16ths is a bit bigger than 7/8ths.

Thanks, they have the unit I linked above for a good price with free shipping, as well as the silicone tether at the best price I've found.

ETA: Ordered both for $50 with free shipping. Thanks!

It was on amazon for $165 shipped band new and with lifetime maps-I have updated the tom tom and need to do it again-not really hard. it comes with mounting hardware. You can now buy it for $300 instead of $165 what a great deal

Glad that worked out for you. I've been very happy in the past with GPS City.

They have to stop selling these GPS's , out here we now have a big problem, in particular people using them in rental vans and trucks because we have a couple of low overhead railway bridges in Melb and they don't show up on the GPS. Guess what happens several times a week

Well, at least they need to stop selling them to stupid people anyway. LOL

But to be honest, we used to have a very low bridge in the town where I used to live, and even with lots of "Low Bridge" signs, "No Trucks" signs, and several ways to avoid the bridge, there were still trucks who go stuck or damaged. Like they say: "You just can't fix stupid".

No need for a bike-specific GPS, I'm using an expander plug mount with an old $40 car unit. Mine just happened to fit between the fork caps.

This particular bridge is very well signed but it is only 3 meters high and on a busy road that is part of a freeway exit, gets them every time. It is a massive problem to try and lower the road but bridge has been there for well over a hundred years and it isn't going to be pulled out so they have to lower it. Wasn't too bad before the GPS became popular, now something hits it every few days

Absolutely. I'm using an old Garmin Nuvi 560 that I bought off Craigslist for $60. Works great. I had a 550 before and bought a 570 for my son-in-law. I like the Nuvi 5XX series because they use a locking power plug, not just a generic USB plug. Much more secure and less likely to erode the USB plug contacts due to vibration, as in some models.

I use my garmin 660 also, and my IPhone, I find my IPhone to be easier for me to use , maybe because I'm so used to using my phone ?
