Handlebar risers - overhang dangerous?

Heyho guys!
I'm currently thinking about maybe adding some bar-raisers or "spacers" to make the riding position a little bit more comfy.
But when adding the spacers and putting the clamp on bars back on, they have a certain "overhang" where they don't grip the forks at 100%

I think this is the same thing with pretty much all risers, right?

Does this bother you? Many or most of you have changed your handlebars and installed these risers, right? Are they reliable, do they hold up well?

I looks somewhat weird, but if the clamp on handlebars are screwed on tight I think it doesn't matter.

What do you think of that?

 

I would try and down load the installation instructions for some. It will become a lot clearer then.

 

You might have dangerously reduced your front ride height too much if the installation required raising the forks up more than about 10mm.

 

I did, and they all pretty much work the same.
You literally 'just' undo the clip-on handlebars, but the spacers around the forks and reattach the clip-ons on top of the spacers.

But when re-installing the clip-ons, after having put on the spacers, the clip-ons 'only' grab the fork/shaft with like 75% of their surface, it looks like. the rest of the clip-on's clamp is sticking over.


But probably im just being very German and overly safety-oriented could be

i wouldn't ride like that. if the distance is less than 10mm, loosen and raise the forks enough to get full contact.

 

Yes they only grip part way, from memory the minimum is usually 50% (I could be totally wrong tho) That combined with the "plug" is more than enough to provide the grip required.

 

If you don't feel good about the mounting security of the spacer risers, you could op for something like Helibar risers which include the cip-on bars, so the clamping surface is not compromised. The Helibars bring the bars up and back.

What gen is your VFR? Eight gen - bolts hold the clip-ons and not the fork tubes.

 

it's a 6th gen from 2003

Thanks for the suggestion, man! They indeed do look very nice!
But finding them at a decent price is kind of an uphill-battle from where I stand. However I'll keep an eye out for them, maybe I can snatch a pair of these used ^^

No have the latest vfr.

 

For me They are great. 2 years and 5,000 miles with no concerns. I have not watched the video yet but I do not see a concern. The fit well and are secure with or without unless the bolts fail.

 

After seeing the video, Mine are for the 2014 vfr and have a different more easy setup. I bought the 1.25 inch from a member on the 8th gen list. The original bars are just used on top of the 1.25" spacer and came with longer bolts to accommodate.
