my '99 is sitting right at 50K miles. bought it 9 months ago with 28K. I'm quite adept at rear tire changes now. Thanks single sided swingarm

I bought my VFR800 FI in 2003 with 23000 Miles on the clock. I use it for the 150 mile comute to work. Its now done 164,000 Miles, and is on it's second engine, the first did 152,000 Miles. It's had new front and rear shocks, Rectifier, Rear brake caliper (after seizing) 3 chain & sprocket sets. For those of you who know Only fools and Horses it's like Triggers broom. Still nowhere near Stan's epic 852,000 though

I am interested in hearing from you.

Why was it rebuilt? Did it fail or was there some things wrong and you just decided to bite the bullit and do a rebuild? Was it a complete rebuild? How much? How was it reacting leading up to the rebuild? What tell tale signs would I look for to give me a heads up that things are going south?

No one seems to be able to give me any advice on how many miles I should be able to get out of mine so I am really interested in what you have to say here.

The first signs were noisy engine at the bottom, followed by vibration. Everything seemed a little, well, loose. Also a degradation in power, although I didn't notice this until I got the new one in and saw the difference
I could have repaired the worn out parts of the engine but given the age and mileage other parts could have gone at a later stage. So I decided to buy a complete second hand engine with 20,000 miles for £350 delivered. £200 to get it fitted.
I get big service every year in January I change the oil and filter at least twice more. I think this has contributed to the longevity of the engine. A Scottoiler undoubtedly increases the life of the chain and sprockets.
As for how many miles could I have got. I would say if I didn't rely on it for work I could have pushed it another 25,000 miles

    30,000 on the VFR. 19,000 on the 748. That's 49,000!

    (EDIT: miles, not kilometers)

80,000 miles on my 91 and soundsf/rides - faster/better than the 20,000 mile 93. Don't ask me why, my 04 ex 500 rides better than my 93 race bike did and it just turned 30,000. Every bike has a different personality, no two are ever the same.

Yep, it's in the article. Lower red box on the left there is a summary on the bikes and the miles ridden. The VFR 750 had the engine replaced once.

With some lean maintenance the RC46 engine is almost indestructible....

30,000 as of today of the 94 VFR750.
Must be worn out by now.

Not sure where the ODO is on my latest bike, but I put on nearly 30,000 km (18,600 miles) for 2015. :)

Wow! How'd I miss this one, Oh yea, thats right I didn't have a VFR, still could have made a comment, but yea, ok, what ever. First real VFR (I had prior a VFr1000), a 96, was good till it was taken out along with me on it at 42K , I bought it new, ran like a champ it was. From that took me a couple years to get back in the saddle. told myself that 4th gen is hard to beat, found a great one in a 97 with only 19K one owner, now mine. Fast forward to 010 it had 46K on it when a deer thought I shouldn't be riding it anymore. Fast forward again to just last Aug even though I looked high and low for a 4th gen, you know they're the best right? , I could never find one in the condition and price. so got a Duc, thats another story, So another year later, I tripped over, actually fell in my lap, this 5th gen I currently have with 31K from the original owner a aircraft mechanic, pretty much in grade A condition. Now it has 33K, I expect nothing more than what I've had before. Excellence, after a few minor up grades ;)

[IMG]My 99 5th gen VFR has 92000km, and my 97 VTR1000F currently has 76000km. Aside from the bits you'd expect to fail over time like the thermostat and coolant hoses, both bikes have been great under my ownership. I rode a new 8th gen at a dealer open day, and aside from feeling a little newer in the clutch and gearbox departments, it was not significantly different to ride. I'm looking forward to celebrating a 100000km birthday.
