Hello all, I just purchased a 99VFR w/ 17k miles..pretty much stock except for exhaust and Ohlins shock. The shock needs rebuilt so I bought a stock one from ebay...not sure what I will do with ohlins...might get it rebuilt and put back on...I would like to drop one tooth on front sprocket ..it will get ridden mostly in key west which it mostly in town but some trips up keys

I like it, nice smooth, calm riding bike, I also have an aprilia RSV1000r and wife has an Aprilia Tuono ...we are both over 50 and ride every day together

Welcome to the fun house! Good first post, and congratulations on getting a 5th generation beauty.
I have a 98 with a 16 tooth front sprocket. At an actual speed of 55 mph, the speedometer reads 65mph, and the odometer is equally inaccurate (just to let you know).

Nice job of posting a pic. The stock shock is a mush monster. If all you want to do is highway riding, you will be fine. If you take it through canyons at anything other than a leisurely pace, you will absolutely want to rebuild that Ohlins. Hell, I'll trade you for my stocker and some cash if you don't want that Ohlins. ;) These old girls are definitely no modern day Aprilia, but I really enjoy the riding position, and the way power is delivered. Less peaky than Aprilias, just nice and smooth. Welcome to "the world".

Thanks...here in Florida there are not many twisty fast roads and this is thing is going to stay in key west to ride down there...I find the aprilia has more more torque than the honda...just not as smooth feeling..ie vibration and stiffer suspension...not sure what I am going to do with ohlins shock yet...probably get it rebuilt and see how stocker feels

I'd be very interested to know what model Ohlïns is installed? I contacted them and they said there wasn't one for our bikes. The model # could help me locate a used one (although I just installed a DMR 929)
