I am glad to see that you have finally got a clear picture of where both O rings should mount on your 8th Gen.

I wonder how much Honda will want to supply the missing clips. I just hope they are available as a separate part rather than bundled as part of a whole new rear undertray?

If the genuine part cost is really too much you could probably fabricate something which will work using stuff from a DIY store.

I'll get them at my 600 service since I'm under warranty

My curiosity got the better of me, I went out and check my USA '14, and I have only one O-ring that clips on the hooks that are part of the plastic bottom, I see the two uprights where your clips go, but I don't have them or a second O-ring. I did see a single clip in a middle upright, but there was no other point to attach an o-ring. Maybe second o-ring added in newer models?

Some dealers are known to remove both Orings and clips from new bikes and attempt to sell them on Ebay and Craigslist.

Grrr. If people pay good money for a new bike - it sucks if stealers (or staff) are really taking stuff before delivery, as most new owners will have no idea stuff is missing. I have a feeling this thread may trigger a lot of 8th Gen owners checking to see if stuff has gone missing!

I rather thought the same might have happened when I picked up my Street Triple and as it was a long way home, I decided to give the bike a thorough check over, and realised the tool kit was missing. After a polite enquiry, the smug expression of the dealer suggested he had encountered this enquiry before. He duly removed the seat to reveal the "toolkit" which it seems Triumph had "optimised" and now comprised just a single Allen key and a stick to prop up the fuel tank which were clipped to the underside of the seat. Wading through the official manual a few hours later confirmed that Triumph considered that those two tools (and more importantly a credit card) are now all riders really need.

A good indicator is when you see a new bike on the showroom floor and it doesn't have tires.

I bought my 8th gen used with 2600 miles on it from a dealer. I can't imagine them taking the second o-ring and the two clips. So my question is, what is stock, one or two?

Honda grew tired of issuing all the changes contained in a sometimes three year run of bikes when the generation thing was invented. For instance, the "8th generation VFR actually has four different models sold worldwide. One in particular which we shall designate Generation 8.112a only has one Oring. This particular model was made for the growing market in East Timor where two Orings means evil spirits will live in the walls of the owner.

BB I am beginning to think you are right!

ManxVFR: Yours is a 2016 and a Euro version. You clearly have the two clips in the forward position.

Mine is a 2014 US version, I don't have the clips and my manual only has the left picture, not the right one with the U-Lock.

The make things even more confusing, this is how mine was when I first looked at the compartment!

Which reminds me it needs a thorough cleaning!

My Aussie 2014 plated has 2off O-Rings but only one set of attachment clips. I poked around for 1/2hr trying to figure where the 2nd one went. Gave up and figured it was a spare
