Quick Question. Last Saturday I changed the oil/filter on my 6th Generation VFR. I filled it up with just a tad over 3 quarts, started it for a couple of minutes, then filled it up a tad over the top line in sight glass.
Is it going to hurt to run bike with the oil level a little above the max line?
Lesson learned from first oil change: Let the bike sit for a while and add oil gggrrraddduuaaallllllyyyyyyy.

    Thanks for the replies.

I think if you are just barely past it you are probably okay. I have done it before and I didn't have any problems, but if it really bothers you, just drop the plug for about 3 secs and you'll be back between the lines...

I like to use a vacuum brake bleeder to remove excess fluids of any kind, but if you don't already have one that turkey baster idea is most definitely cheaper.

If the oil level is above the upper mark you should remove the surplus oil as when the engine warms up the oil level will increase and will escape through the breather hose, dont want excess oil on rear tyre for obvious reasons!

    excesssive oil = Frothing

A small amount of oil over the line is most likely ok, however I would definately remove it to be safe. The turkey baster (attached to a small diameter hose if needed) is a very inexpensive and practical use. And besides, it's not the first time your wife will have complained about you taking kitchen utensils to work on your bike I'm sure! The problem with excessive oil is not just the overflow to the rear tire, but more importantly it causes a frothing or bubbling effect in your oil. These tiny bubbles circulate through your system and cause a lack of lubrication around critical bearings. Very important and much more expensive than a turkey baster.... Good luck and stay safe.

If you don't have a small diameter hose for the turkey baster a kids felxi straw on the end of the baster will work in a pinch. Don't ask.............
