Problem, or perhaps working as designed. I have VFR 750 - L rc36 '90 looking good, but all of a sudden I got this electrical issue with very low charging power, so I replaced the rectifier - didn't solve it, so I have just removed the casing to the stator, resulting in an oil spill on the floor. :grumpy: I'm very unexperienced when it comes to repairing the bike, bur I am learning as I go, I have the Haynes manual but I can't seem to find anything describing that there should be oil surrounding the Stator, so I got a little surprised.. I got worried that the gasket behind the Alternator was defect, but before extracting that, I wanted to ask all you guru's in here for advice.. Please assist. The oil is engine oil. It helps keep the stator cool. Put the bike on its side stand to minimize loss.
I'm not sire I understand, if the cabinet that holds the stator i located on the ledt side, what good would it do me to lean it to the sidestand, but to make my issue more clear. Is ithere supponer to be oil in there, if so I dont want to pull of the stabiliser/flywheel, to check the gasket behind.
Dude- just drain the oil like an oil change. Then pull the stator side cover off. The stator will then be staring you in the face.
It is very normal for oil to be in that compartment. You could do as advised above and do an oil change, or you could just refill to the correct amount after you're done replacing the stator.

But before you pull the stator do the "Drill" so you can find out what part is causing the charging problem. You are only the 10th million to have charging problems this year
Yes the stator is on the same side as the sidestand and yes it supposed to have oil in there for cooling. I replaced my stator and rr this year I got the mosfet rr and Rick's rebuilt stator with upgraded wires. I soldered the rr to stator wires together and it runs like a charm

Thank you very much for a lot advice, I have done the "DRILL" great procedure, keeping it very simple for a guy like me.. :tongue-new: I still need to find a new stator to replace the old, but I would like to keep it cheap but still good quality, and when living in Denmark it's not alway easy to find that. I will go for the oil change while at it. happy riding.
