You were in the attic? I'm confused, maybe it's a tall attic. Anyway, feel better.

I was going to say tuck and roll too, but then I remembered from far too much personal experience that tuck'n'roll only works w forward momentum. A straight drop negates its effiency - Jay, you sho got a way of getting between the rules. So glad you've caring family with you. Speedo healing to you, my friend.

Praying for you Jay! Take it easy till you can at least breathe deep again.

I understand the rib pain. Cracked one of mine years ago when I rolled my snowmobile rounding a sweeper. It hurt to yawn! That took the fight right out of me for a while.

Ladders are sneaky dangerous. A friend of mine fell from an extention ladder that he had propped against his flagpole. He was painting it, and at some point he got high enough on the ladder that it "rotated" around and spit him off. He was paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of his life.

    I second what VFR4Lee said
And they say bikes are dangerous. Heal up dood.
My sympathies go out to your friend. Stories like his tend to make us step back a bit and realize that silly errors on our part can and do lead to more serious injuries than a broken bone or two. I have a body harness and fall resistor to wear when I am up on the roof clearing the gutter. I now need to wear it.

I live in a townhouse. Its 3 floors highs & once borrowed my brothers 20ft wooden (25 year old) crappy ladder to reattach my ariel. It wasn't high enough so I was on the top step at full stretch hanging on the guttering to reattach it.
    NEVER AGAIN.
I used to teach rock climbing so am fairly adept at heights - however this ladder was so 'flexible' that I only used it for 20 minutes before chopping it up & buying some scaffolding instead on EBay.

    Ladders are dangerous....

Sorry to hear about it. Sucks to get hurt, but to get hurt when you're not doing something fun sucks even more. Heal quickly and well.

I'm having another check up today to hopefully answer some of the what's going on. Then I also read of folks that have died like the following week from blood clots from a decent fall. I didn't need to hear that, but whats ya going to do. More later as it come, but last night was a bitch. yea add a slight head cold to the don't cough then laughing Ha, that's a NO No. thank guys.

I use a leaf blower and attachment I made from plastic pipes from Home Doh. Works just fine as long as the leaves and crap in the gutter are dry.
Only climb ladder to check results and shoot some water through it. But, if you had enough pipe for more than a 1 story, it might get kind of heavy.
As is, it is a bit unwieldy, but safer than getting on the roof.

I wished that was all I needed. I either use the garden hose after disconnecting the down spout, or when dry, the shop vac. I have a two storey house so it needs to be done from above on the roof. Not only leaves, but nut shells dropped by the Ravens and crows. And the gutters get full of the asphalt from the singles, and tonnes of dirt from the dust in the air floating around from the farming community. I will pull about gallons of that shit out of my gutters every year.

Time to hire someone to do that as well as the pressure washing of the walls. I am tired of that too.

I've been told that motorcycling is dangerous and a ladder is what gets you. Hope you get better soon!
