Yes, I also do shocks for the 4th gens. In fact, I have options for every generation. This is not a kit, but rather a conversion to the shock itself. This means the shock is a direct replacement for your stock unit. Shoot me an e-mail if you want more information.

I just got my new shock from Jamie last wknd. I'm attempting to install in my 95' but am having issues getting the old shock out. I just tt Jamie and he said I'd prob have to remove more stuff up top to get enough room to angle the top of the shock so that I can pull the bottom up through the swing arm and slide it out the side.

ANY other suggestions of successful replacements would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Mark

Did you unbolt all the triangle bolts? If so try getting a jack and prop up the rear sprocket, it will make a gap so that you can pull the old shock out from the bottom.

All bolts are off. I even took the connector off from the top of the shock. I had someone hold the swing arm all the way up...I don't think the top of the shock (w/ the reservoir), will fit through the opening in the swing arm unless you can get a really hard angle. I tried it from every direction and I didn't see where it would fit through the opening which is why I decided to take it out the side - like you installed the new one.

Ok, seeing as how I only have experience with the 5th gen I really can't offer any other advice other than keep taking more stuff off the rear. If you get really stumped you could even post pictures and either me or someone else with a 4th gen will chime in!

SUCCESS! I pulled battery, battery tray/undertail, and my undertail I just installed and pulled it out the top. I'm pissed I didnt try this sooner. It was DEFINITELY the way to go and only a few bolts to remove the battery tray. Whew.
I'll post some pix in a bit.

Congratulations, and yes be sure to share pictures for any other 4th gen owner who wants to install this too!

It sure is frustrating but you'll be glad you went through all that with the improved handling!

So, it ended up being a bit of a gut job. Fortunately, she breaks down real easy:

Here's a shot of the shockless swingarm - not much extra space:

New and old. Notice the shorter, thicker Jamie'd shock vs. the skinny stock shock:

Why not just ask Jamie if he'll ship outside of USA?

    Jamie,
What options do you have for a 6th gen????
can you do anything with the stock shock??
will the 929 shock work on the 6th gen and does it have comp and rebound adjustments on it??

No problem! I've shipped quite a few outside the US. Australia has been real popular lately for some reason, as has Europe.

I also offer a 929 conversion for the 6th gens. Upgrades to your OEM shock are also an option. The VFR shock only offers rebound adjustment (really a combined comp/reb). Even so, they can be made to work very well. Most people are surprised at how well you can get an OEM shock to perform.

Let me know if you guys have any other questions!

What's the reason for going with the mount extension you did as opposed to a completely new upper mount (or other modification) that wouldn't require machining of the 929 shock?

I feel like it's the safest and most robust way to make this work. Upper mount extensions have some issues and I don't feel comfortable with them.

Concerned about the torsional stress caused by a longer frame mount bolt? Sorry for all the design questions, the engineer in me is curious.

Exactly. With the increase in length from the shock mounting eye to the frame you get a multiplication of the induced moment. I would much rather put a component in compression instead of bending. Material does not fail in compression, but bending induces tensile stress in the member which does cause failure.

what would be the cost of doing stock rear shock rebuild and turn around time?
and the cost for 929 set up for 6th gen?

    Thanks
