I copied the below from a Kneeslider article; this is just all bad. I have enough goverment inference in my life with out them trying to implement crap like this. I'd convert my VFR to run off moonshine before ever giving in & purchasing a bike set up with this system.

    Kneeslider article:

According to ZDNet, Legislators over in the UK are trying to come up with a law that will install GPS speed governors in motorcycles. The GPS knows what road you’re on and what the speed limit is so the motorcycle is prevented from going any faster with some sort of electronics to keep you from exceeding the posted limit. You would think they would have better things to do but if some busybody first attacks the smaller group of motorcyclists and is successful, cars will surely follow. It was another government in Europe, Germany if I remember correctly, where a legislator took issue with motorcycle top speeds eventually leading to the speed limiting agreements among manufacturers. I hope this new effort is quickly defeated but you never know. If anyone in the UK has more details about this effort, let us know.

Thats nuts! that sounds sort of dangerous for a bike. What if you have to speed up to avoid a screwball driving a cage! I bet you would see just as many accidents.

    Usual crap

Sounds like the usual socialist nanny state mentality. Better save us from ourselves!

"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule it". -H.L. Mencken

Jamyz-Ona side note, a bigger tire on your 500 may not provide the benefits you think. Check out what the tire manufactures say, etc.

My friend has a Ninja 250 and he can lean that thing horrendously steep, and it has pretty skinny tires.
    Just a thought!

BZ thanks. my bike does handle pretty good even with the shin chings or what ever they are called. I still have a ways to go before I can lean it over and drag a knee but I just love the look of a bigger tire. but if it detracts from the handling its a no go. I love my little Interceptor nobody know what the hell it is and I get alot of comments on it. Plus it looks like it belongs in a Mad Max Movie hence the nick name. I was also thinking of putting a bigger sprocket on the back. I don't care about top speed but I'm addicted to acceleration.

    Bones,
I not sure we're far off from that now. I wish I could remember the reference, but I remember reading somewhere that there is actually a debate over who owns the data in your cars computer.

I heard about this the other day. Just anesthetise us all and be done with it. I hate to talk politics on a bike site, but this is where we are headed if we want to follow Europe, and even AUS on many issues. Who knows though...DC repealed the firearm laws just today in Federal Court...:blah:

    nice quote BZ.

soon no fries, can't drink coffee in the car no beer on tuesday.

    Please excuse my Libertarian rant!

Unite!! Under one banner of motorcyclists everywhere!

Its a bit dramatic, but the idea of contacting your congressperson and senators actually does work. In today's political environ, where no one will take a leak without backchecking the polls, if there is big pushback by Americans reacting to assinine European laws they will take heed.

They only want their jobs, money and control. Those who can't, go into politics, or polytricks as Bob used to say...

Just wait until the UN tries a worldwide tax on carbon emmisions, followed closely by a bill eliminating small arms except for state institutions, whom could never be corrupt or dictatorial...:pound: One woman, can't remember name, nearly single handedly removed all firearms from both the UK and Australia, scares the cr@p out of me.:blah:

Did any of you see that in France it is now a jailable offense to record violence either against the police or perpetrated by them. They are attempting to hide their intifada, and Rodney King response to it!!!

As if it isn't obvious to everyone...

You can thank idiot liberals for this. These are the same people that want to ban guns, smoking, cars that get bad mileage, nuclear energy, etc...

I had the oppurtunity to be stationed in the UK when I was still a mechanic. I turned that down with the quickness. The UK really hasn't advanced much since the days of knights & jousting. The commoners have pretty much no rights other than what the royalty tells them. They can't own any firearms except single shot non-repeating long guns. There is a tax on EVERYTHING. I've been to the UK many times since I started flying. I find it's citizens are warm & friendly people but it's governement is off the scale retarded. Australia is not too far behind & Canada is bringing up third. This is a shame of epic proportions since I think both Canada & Australia are freaking awesome placed to visit.

When you live in a nanny state where you depend on moronic liberals to decide everything for you, you end up with no freedom at all. Having the government regulate everything for "our safety" is disturbing. The DC gun law is proof there can be light at the end of the tunnel but like night follows the day, the retard liberal Governor of DC vows to fight the ruling. You want further proof these idiotic liberal laws simply don't work? Look at the riots france had not too long ago. They passed a law making it easier for a business owner to fire a non-productive employee. In other words, they let the business owner run his own business. The citizens (mostly immigrants that aren't even permanent citizens of france) rioted in the streets saying the law was unfare to them. Seems to me, a business owner should be able to hire & fire anyone he wants. If that person doesn't do their job, get rid of them & find someone who can. In a move that should surprise no one, the wine & cheese loving surrender monkeys repealed the law like the little cowards that the are. Now in france, you can't fire anyone unless they have been on the job for at least 2 years. Another idiotic liberal law protecting the "little guy" from employers who simply want productive workers.

    KC-10 FE out...

I like the big tire look too, but did some reseach and found calling your favorite tire people, whoever that is, you can get a rep that will be honest. You tell them what you want to do and they'll ley you know what will work, and what won't. The Metzler guys assited me a bit when I bought my Z6's.

I love the Mad Max theme too, but I guess that is obvious!

Interesting topic. I assume the point of this proposed law was to decrease accidents although I am not convinced. I was reading an artical in the local paper about the subject of risk. The general point being if you take risk away from one thing people will increase it somewhere else. One case they cited was the fatality rates for car accidents. Car safety has improved vastly over the last twenty years yet the traffic fatality rate has not decreased to the same degree. What researchers have found is that because cars are safer people tend to drive faster and more aggressively and end up in the same place as before fatality wise. My thought is that these types of regulations generally do not have the effect they are intended too and are a waste of time. I just wish these "Daddy nows best types" would butt out and let us get on with our lives in whatever way we choose to lead them. Sorry about the rant but this sort of thing drives me nuts.

Hey guys, I was just on the aprilia forum at AF1 racing, in the pollitical section. They were talking about the same thing. Dont get to twisted up about this subject, it is not happening any time soon. A special intrest group mentioned this idea, and the magazines ran with it. The registering of race/special use bikes, is to prove ownership, and that is all. It will NOT make race bikes illegal. It's just like some towns/cities(not many of them anymore), in the USA that require bicycles to be registered.

I recomend looking for that site to know more.
I don't know how to post the link, so if someone elts could do that for me, I think everyone would understand.

If they tried to institute this GPS tracking crap, chuck norris would deliver such a devestating round-house-kick to the british parlaiment that they would end their gufffawing and harumphing for good and go back to what they are good at, wearing wacky wigs and taxing tea.
in all seriousness, I dont see this junk happening, and worst case, disable the little GPS receiver, how would they catch you? It would be a secondary offense like driving a cage without a seatbelt, "riding a motobike without a GPS speed nanny". I like my government small and my freedoms big and I hate politicians.
Lastly, people are too caught up in safety for idiots these days. We need a little more darwinian natural selection lest we allow the morons to inherit the earth.

If they wanted to make the roads safer they would install a device in SUV/pickup trucks that doesn't allow them to make lane changes when a motorcycle is near.

Rider mistakes happen but the majority of the time I ask someone why they went down the story involves either a SUV or a woman.

Back on the topic this type of system would be great in vehicles not equipped to handle high speed .... (uh oh here he goes again) SUV/pickup trucks.
