Gas millage? Hahaha 1200 runs 100km on 6 liters while I've never heard any 800 running below 8 liters buahahah

800cc...90 RHWP with 245kg taking 8 liter per 100k's this must be the deal of a century :greedy_dollars:

    52 mpg? Sure!

Funny that all negative feedback towards 1200 comes form 800 mower owners who never even stood by the 1200 at all...not even talking to afford one.

    what a load of shite

    http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/honda/vfr1200f

I wouldn't ever buy a 1200, with the amount of miles my 99 has seen I would have burned through 4 1200 engines by now. :potstir:

I know 666 people killed on VFR800 - but I would never bring it into discussion...

On the contrary, says the guy who never even rode one...

As i said before, funny that only acid spilled on 1200 is always received form 800 owners. What a pitiful world you must be living in...

I'd sooner ride a Harley Davidson across country then that deathtrap masquerading under the "VFR" banner. which here apparently means, VeryFortunateRider cause he didn't end up with a conrod and shattered wrist pin up his arse.

Yeah, naming the 1200 with VFR was the wrong decision for Honda. VeryFoolishRider I should say.

I shall remove the VFR from my bike to not belong to mower gang anymore.

Yeah, ride a Harley - you will find yourself at home with the same millage and performance.

If I bought a 1200F, I'd ask the dealer to install ceramic armor plating underneath the seat and tank.

Too be honest, I'd settle with one of those Hurt Locker Suits.

    Is Aerostich making these yet?

Just to be clear here. I am not a mechanically aware gear head biker

Noises including got serious 5miles outside Swaffham. I was hoping I could gently limp it in.

In hindsight I was wrong. But hindsight is 20/20 isn't it.

You guys all have the benefit of hindsight to tell me how dumb I was.

    Congrats.

Let's just hope everything works out for you guys and you all make the perfect decision in a perfect world.

SHEESH... I just thought you guys should know what can happen.

OK. So I hindsight I wasn't too clever

Are any of us with the benefit of hindsight.

I'll let you know what Honda decide.. But otherwise I'm not getting involved in this

    I have a day job.

Pitfox, you do have some kindred spirits here. I'm cringing while reading the criticism.

Let me point out that by the time a noise is heard in this situation, an engine tear down is already required.

I would also figure that after the Honda techs, at a major service interval, did not see or hear nothing wrong, that would give me a bit of confidence as I ride on, and I might otherwise ignore a bit of noise until I can have it checked out at the dealer.

Did you have the valves adjusted? I did not think of this before but I wonder if the techs caused this problem. Since the DCT is not in the recall, that leads me to wonder if the cause of the same problem happens to be a different cause, like pistons hitting valves.

You don't have to be a gear head to know there's explosions and metal parts flying around. Same way most decent drivers know when to pull over when the oil light cones on

What would it have done to pull over "as soon as he heard noises"? By that point the damage was done! I agree totally, Pitfox, hindsight is 20/20. I still think you may be o.k.. Due to the fact that you frequent said Dealership, and purchased a few bikes from them means that you will more than likely get some help from "them".
Though I work on different kinds of vehicles, I do know these Companies are similar in their handling of service issues.
I am very surprised, too, at the level of bullshit from few of the posters. Thanks for sharing your story. Hope to hear what comes of it.

Did you bother to read his account? He had ample time to pull over before the engine actually grenaded putting him at risk for a wreck

I'm looking at it this way
The VF 750 was a nightmare but out of those ashes we got the VFR 750 and 800 bloody fine machines.
So imagine the bike we will get once they sort out the 1200 .
A's some have already said maybe Buying the first of each new model isn't the best way to go,i hope tthey fix your bike I also think that once you herd that noise it was already history.
    Good luck
