You really want to wait until engine temperature is around 80*C before you adjust anything.
Plus cross check the gauges to see if they are all reading the same.

According to the 5G service manual, #1 and #2 should be the same, #3 should be 20mm Hg below #1, and #4 should be 10mm Hg below #1 (all +/- 5mm Hg).

Starter valve vacuum levels; equivalent to synchronising carbs, so they flow the correct air volume at idle.

If you search online, you'll be able to find a way to build a 4-cylinder vacuum balancer using just clear tubing, oil and a couple of soda bottles. Haven't done this myself as I've been a long time DIY guy for maintenance and buy new tools from time to time to add to my collection, and I already own a SynchPro tool.

    Long overdue maintenance.

Replaced oil and oil filter. I also topped up coolant and fixed a cooling issue that started night before last.

Engine temps were crawling up above 110* even on the highway. I discovered the fan wasn't coming on ...

... got the bike warmed up, disconnected the terminal from the fan switch and jumpered it to ground with a bit of wire. Fan worked so I cleaned the terminal for the fan switch and BAM ... all good now.

That fan is so critical for cooling on these bikes. I'd like to figure out some alternatives as a backup should it ever fail on a trip .....[IMG]

If I'm not mistaken, someone here on the forum built his own synchronizer. I want to say it would be in this thread but I can't remember who the person was or exactly when he posted it.

110C seems awfully high for a moving VFR on the highway Jeff. At highway speed the fan won't be doing much except make noise, as the airflow from the front of the bike would be much stronger. I can lean on my VFR as hard as I like in air temps up to 30C and it never gets out of the low 80's. Different story as soon as I am in stop-start traffic however.

    Agree with above.
I did a ride last summer on a 43*C day at around $1.60 for over 30 minutes with temp at 86*C.
Fan won't to a thing at over 80kmh, wind overcomes it and has no effect.

I wasn't looking for a diagnosis guys. I solved the issue already. :)

Sorry guys, I left out a very important part here ... the coolant levels were super low. It was real hot on my commute home the day previous. I'm guessing the coolant boiled off between that day the ride I had the next day with it heating up in traffic due to the fan issue.

Commuted to work today and temperatures are back in the normal (~85-88*C on the highway and 98*-104*C sitting in hot traffic).

I saw your other post and curious on why the new slave cylinder.
Is it leaking after the rebuild?

hate to say it, but put my last VFR on craigslist. after selling my 93 and 97, it's time to let the 07 go since I never ride it.
