I noticed I have something bolt like sticking out of one of my pegs. The other peg on the other side does not have this, but a tapped hole. Anyone know what this is?

It's called a "peg feeler" useful to indicate that you have, or are close to reach your maximum lean angle.
Some, or most of us, take them off for aesthetic purposes. YMMV.

Yep, them are curb finders, so, if you don't have them on, stay away from the curbs.

The 8th gen has them as well - here's a vid where you can see them scraping like fingernails on a chalkboard around the :50 and 1:50 marks :peaceful:

I took mine off while on the road. Quite by accident. Then found the nearest washroom and cleaned up. Actually broke both mine off each in one of my several drops. Bike goes faster now because of weight savings.

3rd gen used curb feelers that were basically just a closed end nut. A lot shorter than 5th and later. Pretty sure you can do the same thing on later gen pegs so you have the benefits of curb feelers and get that last inch of clearance still.

I just had it as a maintenance item to replace them once a year. I found them useful and a lot cheaper than replacing a peg that had been all scraped up. That short they don't affect anything. If I needed to lean more than that I had to fold the peg back anyway.

Some dudes leave them on and use a grinder or a rasp to make it look like they are fast guys who are into really nifty lean angles.

Then ya got the lowrider effect with replacement bolts from aircraft surplus that are high magnesium fractioned. These also save weight and make the bike faster.

At bike nights the drill is to put the bike on the centerstand and rotate the pegs so the feeler bolts are in full view. Never seen any special lighting but I suppose it could be done. Maybe a couple of those buck a throw LED flashlights from Wal*Mart and some duct tape would work.

What? Nobody else has replaced theirs with titanium, for that coveted shower of sparks effect?

That was the trick with knee sliders for a while there. Little embedded bits of ti so they spark. Not that I've bought a motorcycle magazine in a zillion years, but back in the glory days of print the photos were fun.

The lowrider dudes in SoCal bolt plates of high Mag alloy to their rides. Several on Utube.

    Harleydoods use sparklers.

if you use the belt sander you have to be sure to get the correct angle, or you will be call out at the local cruise scene. :peace: on my 91, they where ground down on the mountains of NJ/NY - now I am very boring.

I think Honda calls them "Bank angle sensors" on the CBR1100. Very fancy name.

Bank angle sensors are a completely different things - there is one on every bike, Honda has them under the front fairing between the headlights relays, and the stop the engine when the bike goes down.
