My nearly 10yo pair of Mechanix impact gloves finally bit the dust over the weekend, and I'm looking at replacements. Based on my VFD experience, I decided to look at "rescue" gloves, and found these at Galls:

Ringers SuperCuff Rescue Gloves at Galls
    Ringers Impact Gloves at Galls

There are definitely higher-end gloves in that space, but I'm not actually doing rescue work (but having done it, I know the problems that they gloves are trying to solve). But I've always like the close fit of the Mechanix, and especially the padding of the impact series. It's saved me many a busted knuckle.

These are the ones that I've had in the past (which just died):

    Automotive > M-Pact 2 Glove : Mechanix Wear

and these look like lighter weight versions of the same:

    Automotive > M-Pact Glove : Mechanix Wear

Has anyone used both the Ringers and the Mechanix gloves? pros/cons of each?

I'm in no hurry, since I've gotten most of my projects out of the way for now, and the regular maintenance I need to do only require nitrile gloves to keep my from getting my office-day-job hands too grimy.

Nice gloves, but way too rich for my blood.

I need my fingers for work, so a busted knuckle really is a pain. This is cheap insurance to me. Especially if they last at least a couple of years.

When I was working, the company supplied Mechanix gloves for us. Not the really spendy ones, but it was still nice to use them when machinery was super hot from running production. And they do help when it comes time to clean up.

I've only used mechanix and then regular rubber gloves like we have at the hospital. I like the nitrile ones cause they dont break as much but fit tight enough that I can still do fine work pretty easy. never heard of the other ones you mentioned but if you got 10 yrs out of mechanix I'm thinkin you already have your answer.

I bought a $12 pair from Harbor Freight and they work fairly well (i.e. grip and light knuckle protection) but they don't seem to have quite the knuckle protection that the ones you are looking at. When I'm dealing with fluids (brake/motor oil) I wear the nitrile gloves. I bought some at Cycle Gear on a whim (Grease Bully $19.99 for 100ct.) and they are pretty strong and do a great job, however I had a coupon for HF for nitrile gloves ($4.99 for 100ct.) but these were medium strength and do not really hold up too well. If you do a lot of wrenching I would say buy the ones that look like they would work the best for you, if the Mechanix lasted you 10 years before, why not stick with them.

    Cheers

I have a big box of nitrile gloves for the messy liquids. 5 years of VFD taught me to love those for keeping my hands clean in all sorts of situations.

Reg, you're probably right, and I'll stick with the Mechanix.
