purchased 87 VFR700 for 500.00, it runs and drives. Trying to clean it up a bit, wondering if i should be concerned with cleaning carbs. Will I need gaskets and such to reassemble?

    First, how does it run?

Second, if it runs badly, you most likely will not need any parts to clean the carbs if nothing is leaking.

However, the most commonly replaced parts are (in order):
    - Pilot jet O-rings
    - Fuel tube O-rings
    - Float Bowl gaskets/O-rings
    - Float Valve Needles and seats
    - Jets
    - Diaphragm pistons (due to tear in rubber diaphram)
