Well, for starters, you're only losing 3.5", since you gain a half inch w/ the 17" vs 16" wheel. You'd have to do the math on the tire sidewall to find if there's an advantage to be had there as well.

I have yet to fit the RR forks, so time will tell if they're a good option or not. I have seen them used on these bikes before.

Also, yes, your stock 86 suspension with factory settings will likely have too much sag built in, so upgrading the springs to match your weight will definitely give an advantage.

well after talking with the man! i have finally got a few number's which are now getting me startedi now know where to measure to  and heres what i got.

from the steering stem to the center line of the axle is 22 1/2 inches
which leaves 5.5 half inches of suspension travel and after i compared this with two different honda models i know the 954RR forks dont have enough travel (4.7)inch'es the other one RC51 has 5.1 inches of travel. then i compared rakes & trail's from the VFR with the RC51 the VFR700 has 27.67 degree's of rake and 4.2in of trail and the RC51 has 23.3 degrees of rake and 3.7in of trail. to tell you the truth i really do not know what or how this will applie to me or how so if someone can explain this to me that would be awesome.

Yeah you can get them. But talk about money, not cheap. Factory pro here has them for like $128 I think.

good deal, if you can spend $20 bucks on steel wool 0000, 000, 00 and mothers aluminum polish(white stuff), meguires(reddish stuff), and meguires canurba wax and polish it up, it will keep your mind off the other stuff that requires more money.

Swapping out the radiator isn't needed. The 86-87's where hinged to fasilitate plug changes. Swapping it out may require taking it off to change spark plugs. I run Engine Ice in mine and have never had a problem under any conditons. You can install a manual fan switch as a precuationary measure if you need to for only a couple of bucks.

I saw a post where a guy is using the RC51 forks on a vf1000 and he used the bottom clamp for the top, since it's got a gull wing shape to it. He said it worked prefectly.

Why not use a set of 94-97 forks and triples. It would still be a significant upgrade, they're fully adjustable and easy enough to find. Certainly a lot less complicated. I mean just what do you plan on doing with the bike? Or are you just worried about the bling factor? Shit, look what i can do with mine, stock forks with nothing more than springs, emulators and a fork brace.
