Hmmmmm, sounds about right. Same could be said for cell phone providers, oil companies, electricity providers, and the list goes on and on and on.

Sounds pessismistic, but true. They have us over a barrel and they know it. Even the government tells us what to do, they just give us the option to vote for the dictator in office.

    Ok ok rant over!! LOL

One of my conspiracy theories is that the powers that be want to get us addicted to being online, with smartphones, tablets ect. Then they will drive up the price of bandwidth. Basically the same thing they have done with petrol.

We shut off the cable/dish about 10 months ago. There seems to be a growing movement of people over on advrider who have as well. Get all we need from antenna TV and Internet streaming for $100 less per month.

Of course it's just a matter of time before Internet pricing climbs like cable did. I remember cable being $25ish/month when I was a kid and the folks could barely afford it.

I got an email from DirecTV today, prices going up 3.25% February 1. I'm getting close to that $100/month too. I replied back to the Senior VP of Customer Care I truly appreciated the advance notice, to give me the opportunity to re-evaluate my commitment to spending $100/month on the idiot box. 12 year customer of theirs.

I remember >before< cable, it was all free over the air. Phone was $12 month. And you only had one. Text was something in the newspaper which was thrown in your bushes daily. People didn't need to be constantly interacting 140-characters at a time...oh well.

You kids get off my lawn!

Some areas are dead zones and rely on the various links. Early in the game was CATV. (community antenna TV) Video and audio signal is FM and line of sight from the broadcasl POV. Even a small mountain or a hill range if higher than the broadcast antenna, the signal is toast. I have lived in LA, Houston and Seattle. Pretty much flat with great over the air signal from the major networks and PBS. When I am in Oregon, forget it.. Some AM radio and that's about it. Thankee Jesus for skip waves.

Sometimes the rates go up and yep this is most of the time. Not always, Netflix streaming is or is going to toss out a rate that is less than what they are charging with the limitation of only receiving signal to one or two linked sets instead of the whole hood. A couple of bucks less/mo. Even for the price now this Netflix deal has to be the best deal going. No Oprah as yet....;)

There were two BB stores less than a quarter mile apart near my place in Seattle. One here in Oregon. When BB first opened, they were owned by Mormons who were calling for and editing (censoring) film content on rentals. Netflix under what I think was a different management or possibly ownership team was caught "choking" IOW if you rented too many film the service would slow.

BB is closing stores right and left. The store I used in Oregon went tits up. At first it was a great deal.. Mail rentals could be traded in for store stock, mail service was quick ect. Then somebody tosses some shit into the great fan in the sky and the satellite outfit (Dish) bought them up. So for me it's back to both services with Netflix. The vending machines of which there seem to be more than one outfit now is IMO a pretty good deal. Compare that to theater prices even matinees and a buck and change for a film is not bad.

Another plus for Netflix is that it's built in to many of the newer BluRay players.

Look for your BB mail service to slow. For probably what they pay, as of the 1st, most of the workerbees are stoned.

So do the dope stores take Visa or MC there? LOL

Fun stuff.. home type satellite dishes are parabolic and with some aluminum foil make great little solar furnaces. If nothing else a great organic way to keep a bong fired up.

Must have greenbacks to buy weed. Banks are worried about their FDIC and other Uncle Sam regulations. Friend of mine rents a commercial building to a grower and she pays with stacks of Benjamin's.

Cash is a PITA these days but I hear some folks think the dealer will fall at your feet for it. :)
