Has anyone had any luck hard wiring the supplied power cable into the bike? If so, where did you do it?

I'm looking to connect my Zumo to an 08 VFR.

    Thanks.

I have my Zumo hard wired in. I ran the power lead directly to the battery. It had its own 15 amp fuse that I just tucked into a spot next to the battery. Took all of ten minutes to hook up. It has been about a year now and the one problem I am seeing is with the Zumo Mounting bracket. Two of those little contact pins have come loose and occasionaly dont make contact with the unit, Not good.
Besides that, I love my zumo. I use it all the time.

Same here. just hooked it straight to the battery with the fuse it came with. Works great! Have it hardwired on my Busa and my VFR

Ditto here and I had it wired on my 599 before that.

Wired to the tail lamp, so it's switched power. Don't want to accidently leave it on and drain the battery somewhere.

Not a bad idea. My buddy left his StreetPilot on all night once and didn't have any problems though. They're pretty low drain. My previous GPS was a Magellan that didn't have a battery so I didn't put it on switched power so I could run it with the bike off, so when I did the Garmin, I didn't even think about changing it.

I bought a switched fuse box with a relay at around £25 ($50) from here.

I tucked it behind the left hand side rear seat panel and held it in place with heavy duty stick on Velcro. You connect the live and earth direct to the battery then the relay feed to a switched live. I took the switched live from the rear brake light feed. It's just the job and allows you to connect 5 seperate items. The whole lot is protected by a 5amp fuse.
