    Hi Everyone,

After months of pondering and noodling around these forums here in search of the perfect island bike I finally plunked my money down on a new VFR.

I am very happy. The bike is all that I had hoped for and more.

I also own an ST1300 (which I keep on the mainland for those long rides you can't do here), and except for the greater iron-butt comfort factor of the ST I'm liking the VFR more.

Now that I've hit the 600 mile mark I'm looking forward to learning even more about the bike and what it can do.

    Blue Skies,

    -Dave

I hope you quickly moved the bike away from the edge after the pic. That would so suck to have the kick stand sink in and watch it flip over the cliff. Awesome shot.
    Welcome aboard.

Hello and welcome! How is the riding over there? I know it is an Island, but are there a good number of twisy roads to ride?

Sadly, there's no Hana Highway on the Big Island. That said, there are some very challenging tidbits here and there. I say challenging because the road engineers and the terrain like to surprise you with an unweighted corner now and then, so if you don't know the road you're always wondering what's at the top of that next rise.

Oh, and don't let me forget to say that most drivers here have no concept of motorcycles and are the worst drivers in the 42 states I've been to.

So far I've had my bike on Saddle Road and Kohala Mountain road, both fun because I know them fairly well, and they're uncrowded. I just did my 600 mile oil change yesterday, so I'll be exploring a lot more (carefully, of course!) with my newly unfettered VFR.

    Blue Skies,

    -Dave
