Wow, I looked up the book and found it on amazon. You can actually read it there, and I've been reading it. Great so far, and I found a great paragraph that I thought you would all enjoy: "Riding on a motorcycle make you feel joyous, powerful, peaceful, frightened, vulnerable, and back out to happy again, perhaps in the same 10 miles. It is life compressed, it's own answer to the question, "Why?"" I'm going to keep reading since work is so slow. If you anybody has time, i suggest going to amazon and reading... I think I'll be buying this book.
This is fascinating because actually, in this country (and in other countries) there IS a exisiting set of traditions of women enjoying hobbies and professions that may initially be seen as male-domains. Sometimes these traditions existed and then were taken over by the more sterotyped roles (think of the roles women occupied in the old west and in WWII plants, WACS, etc.) It is generally the "snowjob of the present" (think advertising) that bullies the society into sterotyped gender roles because that is what sells products and services. If we were an open society with regard to gender roles, many established businesses would suffer. And many, many men take advantage of women because of these BS sterotypes. There is always a reason that keeps societal trends in place. Usually BAD reasons. So, look to the past and keep an open mind, there are always examples and role models of people that buck the trends and live for themselves. Same goes for men...there is no reason we cannot cook, clean, sew, nurture and create and still be sure of our manhood. Don't let Madison Avenue dictate what fun you have. Be your own person! (OK, I am off the :soapbox:!)
