That was a good relaxed ride.

JB. Let me get your lever back to you. Mine is working well. Also, you should check the clutch mount/housing to see if the recess that the lever fits into was stretched open. That might explain the feeling that it is not solid.

Good luck finding a good paint shop. You'll likely get what you pay for. Man...it really hurt seeing your bike on its side. A good paint guy can match the paint. I used to have a guy that could match pearl white paint (the three step paint process) perfectly. It can be done. If you replace the fairings, yo are probably looking at 800 - 1000 bucks.

Give me a call tomorrow and we can get the lever back to you.

No worries on the lever Joe. Thanks anyway. I contacted Tim over at Pashnit to see about getting another Pazzo lever. It's definitely the lever that is bent, I checked the recess and it seems ok, but the part where the Pazzo adjustments take place has some extra play in there.

A replacement lower cowl from http://www.hondaparts-direct.com/fiche_section_detail.asp costs $300.59, and the front cowl is $311.08, but looks like it would take some patience to change. I'd like to change that lower cowl out as soon as I can because it sure is an eye sore.

    Thanks again.

That was a great ride and route today, I had fun! We'll have to do it again sometime soon.

Sucks about the bike damage. That stuff just happens when you have to balance on two wheels! At least its new so the paint will be easy to match. I have some mismatched body panels on my bike from when my dad laid it down a few years ago.

    Stuff Happens

    JB,

Yes, it was a good ride. Sorry to hear about your mishap. Man, I leave you alone for 10 mins to get some Gas and look what happens. I know exactly how you feel, been there, done that, got that T-shirt. I have replaced all those part on my bike from my McDonalds parking lot experience. It is relatively easy. Since as I said, I have done it before. If you buy the Parts, will give you a hand it will not take more than an hour to do both pieces. Actually I dont think it took more than 30 min when I changed mine. If you come by the house I can show you some pearl white proof. I wondered how I was able to catch up to you guys. It was really windy on the bridge and I was not going that fast and I stopped at one of the crossovers to fiddle with my GPS. I am glad you weren't hurt. I also have the Technical shop manual for the sixth gen bikes. Another reason not to ride across the Causeway. go around it takes longer. I told you if your bike falls over throw yourself under it. Its cheaper and you probably have health insurance. we'll pick it up off of you cause it is really heavy and its hard to get leverage when you are under it. Its what I do. LOL Just kidding.
Believe it or not when I was getting gas. there was another fourth Gen VFR filling up as well, It was in pretty bad shape missing parts looked like it had been down more than once.
I am open to ride anytime. call me and I will go, if I don't have any previous plans.
    your VFR brother,

Dan, thank you so much! Thank you for your offer to help me with the swapping the parts too. Yes sir, I am going to order a painted left side lower cowl from Honda parts. Apparently they stock em' OEM color coded - ready to ship. We'll have to find out exactly how well color matched they really are - hopefully the paint will be 'right on the money'. Matt mentioned that since the bike's paint is still new, that the color match ought to be ok. That'll sure work for me.

Suppose this won't be the last time I park a bike on its side; just hopefully the last time I set it on the ground in a toll booth lane? I can't imagine being pinned under the Viffer. I wiped out on my old Joe Camel bike on loose gravel - that was a low-sided azz-rash event. That purple and yellow cigarette bike was definitely not a chick magnet, but it was a fun ride.

I'm looking forward to when we can all get out there and ride again real soon. I'm going to be parked until I get a replacement Pazzo lever from Pashnit.com, which should only take about a week. Plus maybe I can get those new tires put on while I wait.

    Thanks again, -JB

I've never done fairings on a VFR but if anyone needs a good place to work on their bike, my office is in the fleet vehicle maintenance building for my company and we have free reign of the shop after hours. I'm usually here on Tuesdays and Sundays working on projects already if anyone needs a hand with something.

Thank you sir. Fortunately, it doesn't look like it will be all that bad of a project, but you never know. From what I can tell, I should be in good shape. I certainly do appreciate it.

    Pazzo Levers

Danimal, when we were discussing the Pazzo levers the other day, I mentioned the availability of colors and options offered. Heck, you probably knew this already. Anyway, I let the fellow over at Pashnit.com know that I screwed up my clutch lever. Let me tell you, this guy is bending over backwards to get me a replacement clutch lever, and I mean get it here fast! My damaged one is being sent back for a damage assessment and repair. Best of all, it might not cost anything except for shipping. These folks definitely stand behind their products and obviously value their customers.

    Mine are on the way

    JB,

Glad to hear that Pashnit cares about Cutomer service. My set of levers is on the way. although I didn't talk to tim.
It is good to know that they will take care of their customers.
There are several Internet vendors I deal with:
Bikebandit.com most of thr parts I used to rebuild my 1986 VFR
morepowerracing.com My Leo Vince Exhaust came from them along with the Zero Gravity DBL BBL windscreen
servicehonda.com best place for OEM parts everyone from VFRWorld uses them, lowest prices good cust service
Motorcyclesuperstore.com Helmets good deals on sales my red Shoei x-11 helmet msrp $692.00 on sale for $444.00 i almost bought two, thank god i only have one head
word of caution: never buy from Exoticsportbikes.com It is a long story and I tell you about next time we get together. It involves my exhaust system saga. Are you gonna do bike night anywhere tonight? thinking about hittting the Kamp.

Hey Dan, glad you got those levers! I'm really glad that I went with em'.

Thank you again! Thanks for the links, especially the one to Service Honda Home of the CR500AF 500AF 500AFX Junior-X - Honda Motorcycle Parts. You helped me save some serious $$$ by going with their Online store. I will be ordering a lower cowl from them next week, and then the upper cowl the following week. Just like a lot of folks, I've gotta pace myself when it comes to spending money these days.

Regarding 'Bike Night'; you bet, I'm in! My clutch lever certainly seems functional enough to let me get out there and ride till the new one gets here. One of my neighbors is going over to the Kamp also. She rides a Honda Shadow or something along those lines. We'll probably head out of here around 6:30pm.

Any thoughts of heading north to the middle of the state? I'm up in Shreveport area. Would be a fun ride on the back roads to somewhere for grub.

    Hi lucky.

I occasionally make it to Baton Rouge. Opelousas or Alexandria would be about half-way?

    central LA

Never been up there on a bike. Do you know any good roads to ride? I would be willing to make the trip to Alexandria. we could eat at Leas in Lecompte. Good home cookin, and even better homemade pies. they are quite famous for them. But the only way I have been up there is on super slabs I-10 to I-49. The sad thing about Louisiana is flat land lends itself to boring roads. But if you know of some worthwhile rides central LA. I would be willing to go for it. I'll check around with my friends and get back to you.

yeah, that would be close enough. ALexandria is roughly 2 or 2 1/2 hours on 49. Obviously longer on the backroads.

I have found some really good roads over near Natchez. shhhhhhhh:smile: One in particular. 126

I've not explored the outlying areas around Alexandria though. I normally head north into Arkansas for the really good riding (in this part of the country).

We could do a long weekend/camping trip to the middle of the state if anyone would be up for that. Maybe get a few of us together for some backroad combat touring.:vtr2:

    Dan:

What do you clean your chain with? I took a last minute ride with my neighbor's broup yesterday - heavy fog, wet roads and light rain. Sounded like a good idea since it was not supposed to rain yesterday. Anyway, my silver bike is now a dull grey. I'm guessing the chain picked up alot of crap as well. I know that these chains have o-rings that can be screwed up by certains solvents. What is safe to use?

    Joe,

Honda reccomends that you clean your chain with kerosene or brake cleaner. They wont harm the Orings. Do NOT use WD40 it will cause the Orings to swell and ruin them. get a grunge brush Google "grunge brush" or a rag & some nitrile gloves and wipe chain down with Kerosene. then spray a light coat of Honda HP Chain lube. that is what I do every six months you can wipe chain down with a rag and then spray it with every couple of weeks

attached picture is a grunge brush about 10 bucks worth every cent

    Hi everyone!

It's great to see some more folks jumping into the 'New Orleans/Baton Rouge LA' Viffers thread. We're gunna have to plan another road trip soon.

Dan, did you get those Pazzo's yet? I still haven't received the replacement clutch lever, but hope it'll arrive by Christmas Eve. Tomorrow morning, it's a phone call to Jen at Service Honda to order the lower cowl. I'm considering taking the ColorRite approach to repainting the scrape on that famous vulnerable side section of the upper cowl, which usually gets scraped when the bike is layed over on either side. If the paint repair doesn't turn out well, then I will go ahead and replace the upper cowl.

Joe, Matt; hope you felluz are doing well.

Thanks, Dan. That brush looks like it'll make short work of cleaning the chain. Is the Honda HP chain lube the stuff that goes on clear? I'm currently using a can of that stuff I picked up from the dealer.
