Good God!!! Hit by a cager today.

Can't I just get out on this beautiful day and go for a freakin' ride!?!? I swear, you just can't enjoy owning anything nice living in this city!

Cager hit me at an intersection only 3 minutes from my house. At a 4-way stop, I stopped first, then he stopped second. I proceeded to roll and got more than halfway through the intersection when he and his Cadillac pulled out and caught the back portion of my bike - thrusting the bike to the ground, sending me high-siding. AGATT really came through for me. I injured my leg but no breaks or road rash. I somehow managed to prevent my head/helmet from hitting the ground also.

Be careful out there felluz! Sometimes it might appear that the cagers are looking directly at you, especially when their either intoxicated or just waaaayyyyyy too old to drive.

 

Aye it's amazing i have made eye contact with the person, gotten the nod and they still don't see me.
a while ago some one posted a picture of people passing a ball around. It showed how people only see what they expect to see.
bikes fail to regester in there brain because they are only looking for cars, when there brain see's no car's they go.
It's the way we are wired and the older you are the more prone you are to this.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure how extensive the damage is yet, but I can tell you for sure that the bike and rider both took quite a blow.

You're lucky you survived it. A buddy of mine was sitting on a red light and a floozy ran into him at over 50 mph. He flipped off and landed on his head. Ended up in the hospital for almost a week.

 

Dude man you're lucky he wasn't 1 second sooner, may have not been so pretty, glad to you you're ok, yea go after the sucker.. I tell ya folks in cars are the #1 enemy all the time, one can't trust a single one them less me of course. Go get em

 

Ouch! Hope you heal OK. On almost every trip I take, I need to brake hard or swerve to avoid a collision at some point. And that's with me expecting people to do something silly and trying to avoid it up front.

Like RVFR pointed out, the timing could have been a lot worse. Personally, I think that we should be allowed to pull people out of their vehicles and beat them publicly, in the hopes that the others will learn.

You are right! The officer on the scene was saying the same thing. I could have easily been pinned underneath the bike with the guy's car sitting on top, or worse. I keep playing the incident over and over again in my head. I remember rolling through, then the next thing I see him heading right toward me - and he wasn't showing any signs of stopping. All I could do is get ready for impact - then POP - I was down. I cleared the bar and then somehow wound up on my hands and knees. Luckily for me, he hit the bike with enough force to catapult me clear of the bike as it was slammed down to the pavement.

Regarding the incident; I did seek legal counsel this afternoon. The guy admitted to the police officers that he was at fault, but when he contacted his insurance company, GEICO, he stated to them that it wasn't his fault. Unfortunately for him, there were witnesses out there that volutarily came forward stating that he was in the wrong, and then the officer issued him a ticket for failing to yield since I had what the officer stated, "that I had established domination of the intersection" based on the damage to his vehicle and mine.

 

Thanks! And oh yeah, I was ticked off but somehow managed to calm myself down in a hurry. I was pizzed, right now I'm just bummed out.

AMEN!! Six months later I'm still recovering from getting taken out on my CBR600RR back in July. Dumb cager was on the phone and didn't see the red light she ran, or me for that matter.

But yeah, at the intersection a block from my house I see at least 2 people run the stop sign and at least once a week there's an accident there. Funny thing is... the stop sign is out in plain view.

People just don't pay attention! That sucks though man.

 

Dang, that sucks, but at least you can write about it, being a motorcyclist has it's definite share of risks. Sometimes after reading unfortunate posts like these I am tempted to hang up my leathers and just stick to the track, however I far enjoy riding way too much.

 

Did she stop after she hit you? How are you doing now 6 months later? Any broken bones? Did you have to pursue legal action?

Yes sir, I'm glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I still want to ride, but I've gotta see how my wife feels about all of this, cause this event has her some upset now. Though, I haven't received an ultimatum yet.
