Ummm...I guess no one told you.

You have to give the juicy details before ANYBODY provides an attorney's name and number.

Things came to a stop when I did a high side at a stop sign. I was able to run off the drop but the sheriff was not happy with how things had gone up to that point. Giant ticket but I rode the bike home.

Probably the dumbest thing I've done.

Is over turning the ticket worth the cost of the lawyer. Realistically speaking, what do you think your chances are of winning. My conviction rate used to be about 80%, lawyer or not.

I assume you were given a major violation ticket such as wreckless driving or similar? I doubt a lawyer can get it dropped but he might be able to allow you to plea to a lesser charge and pay a fine. I wouldn't expect much more than that. How was yor driving record prior?

    Regards,
    Rollin

Hey Scud, I've used an atty here in town for several less than brilliant moments of my own. While I've never walked away from the court house a richer man he has done a great job of getting charges drastically reduced. I don't have his number in front of me but if you call info. and ask for Atty. Cristopher Beasley they'll have it. Remember that paying an atty.(yea I know it sucks) can save a fortune in future insurance costs. He usuaaly charges an upfront fee that verys depending on the infraction and I want to say about $100 an hour for any extra curicular stuff after that. Ive always found him to be worth it!

    Good luck!!

$100/hour. Man that is a great price. My lawyer for a case was $150.00 back in around 1994 or near abouts. ANd he gave me a real deal comparitively speaking. I have no idea what they go for in Canada now but I would not be surprised it is around the $300. mark

Yeah, around these parts you're looking at $200 to $300 per hour. Seems rather ironic since most lawyers ain't worth a plugged nickel as human beings . (Calm down now, I'm J/K)

Yea it's the $1200 to $1500 retainer that stings. 8 hrs on the case averages$200 TO $300 an hour depending on the offense. So not all that great!! Again though, the insurance savings make it worth every penny!

I've managed to go my entire life without a moving violate, accident, parking ticket since I started driving at 15.5 ... knock on wood.

I really couldn't afford to get a ticket, my insurance company is giving me a 20% good driver discount for three years, no marks and no claims and my insurance is still through the moon. Insuring a 19 year old on an FZ1 is statistically a very high risk venture, but c'mon, I'm responsible... why won't they believe me? :cheersaf:

The liability portion of my insurance is ~500/year, that's just one bike one policy.

EDIT: Oh you're in Canada, I heard insurance in Canada is a crapshoot, aye?

$1350 a year for full coverage plus an extra $3000 in coverage for helmet, leather, mods etc. That's with a few speeding tickets that have been reduced to non moving violations.

Check the local rules. Rather than just pay fine, show up and hope LEO does not show, or judge cuts you a break. Be respectful and dress properly. Worst may be having to pay a hearing fee for the same fine. Not sure of the charge but maybe they will allow you to plead down to something with no or less points.

What type of ticket was issued?
