To buy a 2008 or 2009 VFR

The Candy Red 07 is one of the sharpest looking bikes. Call around and you may get lucky to find a dealer with a brand new one. From what I hear, it is also still pretty easy to find brand new Anniversary Editions for great deals. You either love the anniversary paint or you hate it but I bet you could easily find someone to trade bodywork and tank with. There have not been any changes to the VTEC range from 07 on so you're getting the exact same bike.

i found my bike tucked away in some corner at one of those motorcycle mega malls. it was a february in '08 and the bike was an old '06. Sticker said $8k i offered them $7k and they accepted. tack on all the BS fees, tax, license/registration, tire exchange(?) and i still payed just over $9000. it wouldn't surprise me if there's a dealership out there with an '07 still sitting in their showroom. with a majority of the buyers out there looking for the super sport CB or equivalent, it's easy to overlook the VFR especially when the sticker price of a VFR is at least 10-15% higher than that of a CB.

 

Well,folks...I just bought the 08' (no ABS) $9800 Out the door....I love the color(this will be my 3rd silver one)....Will ride it home Thursday.......Here's the why-fores...I looked up all 15 or so shops in a 80 mile area....Called everyone of them....and only the one even had a VFR of any year.....you gotta' love the boondocks......Thx for everyones comments/help.........Monk

 

Congrats Monk. I paid 10,800 for my 08 ABS out the door and they are normally 1K more than the non...I think you got a good price. Enjoy the ride home!!

 

I just purchased a brand new '07 for $7885. According to everything I have read about the 6th gen, the only mechanical difference from 2002 until now is the change in the vtec engagement point mentioned above, and a change in the wiring harness something-or-other in 2006(?) to prevent a problem in the earlier models.

 

HDC....Thx for the update....I read somewhere on this forum(that I now can not find)where it mentioned that there was some mapping upgrades,but I can remember what year they were refering too......

 

Hey Monk, If there was a discussion in regards to upgraded mapping it would have something to do with a power commander. There isn't really anything you can do with the stock ECU. I would by the way, highly recommend the PCIII. It solves a lot of the bikes quirks. Quirks you'll be finding out about very soon. Jumpiness at parking lot speeds, VTECH transition etc.

Congrats, While some will argue with me on this point, Silver is indeed the fastest color!!

 

The off idle jumpiness is the only issue with the stock ECU map. The VTEC (correctly spelled :tongue transition is a POSITIVE! I love that rush!

Actually you are correct, SILVER IS THE FASTEST COLOR!! :thumb:

Good score Monk, any new bike is great. Now don't forget the proper break in procedure.

 

"What are you going to expect on the '07 model? I can answer that. Very smooth power delivery right up to 7000rpm when the VTEC kicks in. Yes, there is a little jump as the extra valves kick in and then a lovely surge of power as you accelerate. A word of warning though, don't even think of using the VTEC system at any point during a bend as the bike will sit up straight and that's the last thing you need. I have no flat spots due to Honda sorting out the fuel injection mapping on the latest models. I will say i do have a pair of very loud Staintune cans on mine with a K&N air filter, not sure if that makes a difference apart from some extra bhp (always a good thing lol) but it does accelerate a lot better with the added items. As to comfort etc, i can't fault it, it's my second VTEC and I love 'em "

This is the thead I read a few days ago,about the stock fuel mapping upgrade,but the comment about going around bends(curves)suggest he could be refering to a overseas model.......

Thanks for the spell check, old habits die hard. I agree, the "VTEC" transition is fun and I kind of miss the balls to the wall acceleration, but for me the mids were just a little too soft. It almost seemed like the engine was choking. Thats why I did the -1 gearing and the PCIII. Just builds more power earlier which translates to a smoother transition but steals from the top. Wish I could have both, oh well, in a perfect world right!

 

now we know that Canada has the black/white colour scheme you have no excuses not to get a 6G.....:thumbsup:

There have been a number of threads about this over the years regarding VTEC kicking in while you've got the bike leaned over. For the most part, on the later model bikes since '06, the transition has been smoothed out. I can't speak for the earlier bikes, but on my '07 it is not an issue. I have some routes that I run where VTEC kicks in while in a corner and it is totally controllable. It's a non-issue for me.

By the way, congratulations on the purchase. You will love the bike and you won't regret it!

 

The VTEC is not an issue for my 05' in the corners either. I think this rumor was started by a jealous owner of a bike other than a 6th Gen! :thumb: Either that or they just can't ride...
